chiO, since pin-up girl Bettie Page was actually in a few films, notably "Striporama" (1953), I will post a picture of her soon.

Thanks for all these great pictures, Mongo. Having just seen William Demarest in his middle-aged heyday in Sullivan's Travels, it was very interesting to see him as a young man.

Thank you CCfan and phil noir. It's nice to know that you both are enjoying the images.

Anne, the photographs were taken in the Fall of 1958 by Richard Avedon of Marilyn Monroe posing as Lillian Russell, Theda Bara, Clara Bow, Jean Harlow and Marlene Dietrich, some of which I posted prior on this thread.

Hi Anne & Joe,

I remember seeing that issue of "Life" magazine with Marilyn Monroe done up as former sex-symbols...
Other photos of her, which were never publishedin America (but were in Europe), featured her as Cleopatra, Catherine the Great and Marie Antoinette.

Larry, thanks for the additional info regarding those shots of Marilyn Monroe as various famous women.
I must add that the lusty blonde looked great in most of the images taken by the master Richard Avedon.

Okay, Mongo. I know studio heads liked to say that certain actresses "had all the sex appeal of Slim Summerville", but that is the most appealing picture of the comic actor I've ever seen. Maybe I'm just a mushy female, but is there anything more endearing than a man who loves his baby? He and his baby were darling.

I'm sorry. Was there a picture of Slim Summerville? The picture of Her Goddessness, Sophia Loren, wiped all other pictures out of my brain...even the one of the Whitster.

Moira, I also thought that image of Slim Summerville with his son was most endearing, not to mention how much the kid resembles his daddy.

No doubt that Sophia Loren is better than spaghetti & meat balls.

CCfan, thanks for the link to the Richard Avedon images.

CharlieChaplinfan:

Thanks for that link to the other photos of Marilyn. She looks terrific in all of them especially the Marlene Dietriech - actually she looks better than Dietriech. The Clara Bow is kind of screwed up because there is a bow or balloon right in front of her face, but the gown and background for Jean Harlow are fantastic and that pose of Lillian Russell would have put those Victorian gentlemen into outer space. :P

Nice photo of of E.G. Robinson and his Chanukah bush, Joe.

It's interesting that in many of these candids and non-glamour shots, Robinson (as does Joan Crawford) looks quite different - softer and more attractive.
