Re: *CANDIDS*
Keenan Wynn's expression at his dad's somewhat grotesque facial contortion is priceless!

Re: *CANDIDS*
HI Stone,
I remember as a kid that Ed Wynn was often called "Rubber Face" in the industry. He certainly looks like that in that photo....
I have always had a soft spot for Keenan Wynn in my heart.
I've heard the story that Louis B. Mayer forced him to divorce his wife so she could marry Van Johnson and 'beard' his sexual orientation. I never knew if this all was true or not; and maybe this was just a marriage gone wrong under normal circumstances.
Do you know what the real 'dish' is???

Stone & Larry. I would imagine that you recall that Ed Wynn was known as 'The Perfect Fool'.

Yes Joe, looking at that photo I was trying to work that "Perfect Fool" into my comment but found myself more captured by Keenan's expression. But that look on Ed's face is . . . perfect in that connection.
Gosh Larry, I've heard that story about Van Johnson and Keenan Wynn in many variations (though all with a similar outcome), but I gotta say I never heard it with L.B. Mayer's involvement. But Hollywood being what it was at the time (and with Rock Hudson another "heart throb" kept closeted through a sham marriage) it would not surprise me -- especially with Mayer's dedication to keep MGM a purveyor of pure film values.

Hi Stone,
Re: Mister Mayer being mentioned; it was only once that I heard his name come up connected to Wynn & Johnson and that was from his own daughter, Edie Goetz, at one of her dinner parties.
Her father had just died and she was cut out of his estate; and so it could be sour grapes!!!
And so the Hollywood Bowl plays on......

Just love the Brown/Lemmon photo. It was great actors, including these two, as much as great writing and directing that made Some Like It Hot the all-time classic comedy it is.
And they look like they're having so much fun, too!

Birthday boy William Powell was in a relationship with Jean Harlow for two years before her death and paid for her funeral, costing $30,000. For many years Powell made sure fresh flowers were always present at her grave.
