Larry, I enjoyed Margaret Rutherford's performance in "The VIP's". She was hilarious and deserved the Oscar that she won.

Thanks so much for posting the image of Eartha Kitt today, Mongo.
I heard a woman on the radio describe Ms. Kitt as "a long-limbed, regal beauty" this morning. Having seen her walking down the street once when she was appearing in the Boston area, I can tell you that she was barely over 5 feet tall.
It was her magisterial presence that gave her height and allowed her to rise from a sharecropper's field with her head held high. A great lady, whose singularity and growl will be missed.

Darn it, Moira, how dare you sum this topic up with such panache & perfection! You left nothing needing to be said!moirafinnie wrote:

Except, if there's any justice in the Afterlife, Eartha will get the opportunity to blackball Lady Bird (and being the class act she's always been, she'll decline to stoop to such conduct).
So . . on to my specialty: Arbuckle's picture mate is an American Staffordshire Terrier, often referred to as "amstaffs" by their fanciers; Carolyn Jones is scooching with a Dachsund, of the longhaired variety I think, though its body can't be seen too well.
And here's hoping Gene got that elegant ribbon-candy shirt back in the wrapper before it melted!

Moira, I used to bump into Miss Kitt too! Both in New York and in Berlin. She was a diminuitive gal, but I was always a little thrilled to see her. I usually would turn to a shop window and watch her in a reflection (rather than stare directly at her); but once in Berlin our eyes met and we nodded to each other. She had a little white poodle with her. I saw her perform in Berlin too, when she was in a production of Sondheim's Follies.moirafinnie wrote:Thanks so much for posting the image of Eartha Kitt today, Mongo.

She had charisma when on stage and showed an inner fire when singing songs like "I Want to Be Evil". I think my favorite number of her's was
"Üsküdar'a" (the Turkish Tale). So many good memories...
Klondike:
Moira has a unique habit of doing that all the time, haven't you noticed? I sit here thinking, or making notes on what sounds good, then suddenly I look at the screen and in mere seconds Ms. Finnie has pounded out what I've spent long minutes trying to think up.
Mongo:
Thanks for those 'then and now' photos of the kids from A Christmas Story, it's fun to see what they grew into, but some don't seem to have changed very much from scrungy little boys.

Moira, I enjoyed watching Eartha Kitt perform and especially listening to her on talk shows. I loved her voice and the stories she would tell, very down to earth woman.
Anne, it was my pleasure posting the images of the kids from "A Christmas Story", which also surprised me how a few of them changed.

I love both the pictures of Ingrid, the one with her children especially, she's so natural both on screen and in stills.
I love the one of Bogie and Bacall too, sort of shows Bogie's soft side.
RIP Eartha, it's kind of funny she died over the Christmas period when she sang one of the best Christmas songs.
