I hope no one minds if I post a photo of Boris Karloff from I think, The Body Snatcher? I found it a week or two ago and it was stunning, I am dying to show it off....

Failure is unimportant. It takes courage to make a fool of yourself - Charlie Chaplin
Re: *CANDIDS*
Wendy, we don't mind at all. It's an appropriate image of Karloff...at his best.
Alison, glad I made your day.

Re: *CANDIDS*
Cowboy star Sunset Carson was visiting in Jackson, Mississippi, in the early ‘50s when he was approached by one of the city’s newspaper owners and asked to visit the man’s son at their home. The son, a big fan of Sunset’s, had broken his leg and was housebound therefore unable to see Sunset while the cowboy was in town. Sunset agreed to visit the boy at his home. As you can see in the above picture, Sunset had his rifle with him and allowed the boy to hold the rifle for the picture. What Sunset failed to do was twofold. First he forgot to unload the rifle or to even tell the boy the rifle was loaded.
What you don’t see is the boy firing the rifle and wounding Sunset in the leg. The photo shows the results as Sunset is being carried to an ambulance headed for the hospital.

Hi Joe,
Well, talk about 'ironic justice'...
Surely Sunset Carson can't be credited with too many brains. Who the 'H' runs around town with a loaded rifle?
And, to not tell anybody, especially the boy; well, what psychological damage could have resulted from that - his shooting his hero???!!!
I can't say I feel sorry for the idiot Carson; but I do sympathize with the kid...

Hi,
Happy Birthday to Luise Rainer today.
She must be the longest surviving Oscar winner...
I hope she is still lucid and upright and will enjoy her day...

I believe that her mind is just fine, Larry.
Ms. Rainer gave an interview to Scott Feinberg of the blog "And the winner is" some months ago. That piece can be read and heard here:

Happy Birthday my dear Luise Rainer. She sent me a signed photograph circa 1981-1982 which I have among my most priced possessions. She's a class act.
Thanks for the links to audio clips Moira. God Bless Ms. Rainer, she looks fabulous and she's so lucid in her reminiscences.
