Blondell is the main reason to watch this film, although I enjoy Gable's performance when he isn't mired in the more sudsy aspect of the script.
Blondell relates a story after the war when Gable invited her to dinner and after pouring out his soul over his loneliness from losing Lombard he suddenly proposed marriage to Joan, telling her that she is exactly the type of woman who could make him forget Carole. After getting over both the shock and flattery of the moment she politely declined.
