*CANDIDS*
Re: *CANDIDS*
I see Nick Adams in the picture... and is that "Dr." Maurice Evans next to Rosey Grier? and Ralph Bellamy?

Ha! Thanks! Well, who'd recognize Jack Carson? For what was he dressed up? And, Kay Thompson is difficult to recognize, but now I see it.

Re: *CANDIDS*
I looked at that picture of Audrey Hepburn and her mother and I couldn't work out what Mum had on her head. Finally I decided it must be a hat stand or something behind her.

Denver Pyle!!! Is that Uncle Jessie from "The Dukes of Hazard"? I wouldn't have recognized him so young and without the beard!

Fernando, that is indeed the same Denver that played Uncle Jesse. He began his film career in the 1940s.

Re: *CANDIDS*
Margaret Sullavan and Henry Fonda were born on the same day?! Holy astrological conflict, Mongo. No wonder they didn't get along when they were briefly married.
Btw, I think that goateed photo of George Sanders dangerously near a Woolworths may have been taken during his attempt to finally use his vocal gift in the bound for Broadway musical "Sherry!" in 1967. The musical version, with music by Laurence Rosenthal and a book by James ("Inside the Actor's Studio") Lipton, was an adaptation of Kauffman and Hart's warhorse, The Man Who Came To Dinner. Unfortunately, due to the fatal illness of Sanders' wife, the British actress Benita Hume (who was also the widow of Ronald Colman), he had to withdraw from the production.
When I was a little kid, there was a recording of Sanders singing one of the tunes from the show that was played on the radio quite a bit. If anyone has seen the movie Call Me Madam (1953) you already know that the guy had a great baritone. There is an album featuring the irrepressible Nathan Lane in the central part that was issued a few years ago. Lane, along with others, are pretty swell on the recording, but what a missed opportunity for George!

Re: *CANDIDS*
Hi Joe & Moira!
Talking about Sanders I remember a story my late paternal grandfather (born in 1916) used to tell us. He claimed that when he lived in the South of Chile and attended some German All male Boarding School, there was an incident while Sanders was visiting the city-I bet it was in the 1920s or early -30s, don't know- involving someone dying drowned and Sanders being blamed for not saving that person. He disliked intensely Mr. Sanders.
Quite a bunch of good pixs Joe! Director John Cromwell looks just like his son, actor James Cromwell, who's a great performer. Kay Johnson was his mum; wasn't She?
Baby Le Roy. He was a cute baby. The other day I watched "His Woman" with Gary Cooper and Claudette Colbert and I was so amused by the baby featured in the film. His name was Richard Spiro and it's the only film in which he appeared, according to imdb.com. Have you any other info about him Joe? I really think he could have become another Baby Le Roy.
In the corner of De Mille's photo from The Crusades I can spot a very young Ann Sheridan, who appeared in that film.
Diane McBain was really super attractive!

Re: *CANDIDS*
Joe, thanks so much for including that quirky but unmistakably New York actress Zohra Lampert -- I've always been a fan of hers.
Interesting photo of Brando -- at first glance I thought it was Gene Kelly! And look at Margaret Sullavan's former son-in-law Dennis Hopper! Wasn't he pretty.
As always, I continue to be amazed at the difference in appearance between Joan Crawford's professional photos and her candid ones. She's barely recognizable as "Joan Crawford" in her more relaxed poses.
