The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced late last year that they would be creating a museum dedicated to the history of film. It will be located in the Miracle Mile district of the City of Angels, on Wilshire Boulevard at Fairfax. Taking over the old May Company (a department store long shuttered) building with its iconic art deco front, the Academy plans to build it's museum inside. They are busy building an endowment fund and hope to open the museum in approximately three years.
While the Academy has quite a collection of film history, one of the things it didn't have was Dorothy's ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz. Well, that all changed last week, when Leonardo DiCaprio and several other "angels" stepped in and bought one of the remaining pairs at an auction. The Academy plans to display them prominently in the new museum.
