Bloomington-born actor and author Denny Miller is the oldest living actor to play Tarzan on the big screen—and now he’s ready to swing into the fitness world.

Miller played the iconic character in 1959—when he was just 24 years old. He carved out quite a career in Hollywood, appearing in more than 20 films and more than 230 TV shows, including The Brady Bunch, Gilligan's Island, Dallas, Wonder Woman and Magnum P.I.

He was also the Gorton's Fisherman for 14 years and even played basketball for the legendary John Wooden at UCLA while earning a degree in physical education.

The actor and health advocate is also an author—and has written three books. His latest, Me Tarzan, You Train!, focuses on fitness.

Miller said such fitness terms as “no pain, no gain” and “going for the burn” are myths—adding that you can get fit and control weight without pain.

Miller said his book proves that anyone can improve their level of fitness, get stronger, increase endurance, sleep better, live longer and control weight gain without pain or “going for the burn.”

Miller said he focused on making exercise fun, calling it “exercise for smart people.” The book advocates healthy, moderate exercise without pain and injury. It includes exercises, nutrition suggestions, valuable lifestyle information and, of course, plenty of Tarzan pictures.

Miller said he targeted the book at Baby Boomers, but said the exercises will work for anyone.
