Well, Doris Day fans, I just completed a search of "The People of FIlm" Threads, and there is not one about Doris Day! I couldn't beweeve, uh, believe it.

I just ran across a link on a facebook page and was wondering if anyone knows anything about the supposed film of Doris Day, The Untold Story of the Girl Next Door. This film link is not supported on a mobile device, so if you have a computer at home, you might want to check it out.

I watched "Pillow Talk" last week and with reflections on some of her other comedies from that period she is hardly the shy virginal type. Now there is no indication there was ever a consummation of the relationships but she was not naive in any sense of the word.

Doris Day is a doll and I love her.

Doris Day had -- has -- the most glorious singing voice and was a superb actress to boot. Plus she could dance wonderfully -- she originally trained as a dancer but had to give it up after injuring her leg in a car accident.

If you want to go to musical heaven, treat yourself to the box set of her early big band recordings with Les Brown and his Band of Renown.



The moment Doris makes her first feature film appearance in Romance on the High Seas, you know you're seeing the birth of a star.

One of my all-time favorite movie musical numbers, Doris singing "Cuttin' capers (Canadian Capers)" in My Dream Is Yours.

I do have a few of those on other recordings, and I completely agree, Paula. Thanks for the link. You just can't discount her sense of rhythm and energy in "Cuttin' Capers." The enthusiasm is so refreshing!

I do have to recommend Considering Doris Day(2007) by Tom Santopietro because it is an in-depth portrait of her singing style and how her life evolved as a result of her music, and vice-versa. A nice tribute to her singing talent, and her professional musical experiences.

I will get my thinking caps on ... and share something that I know about her.

A very talented lady, even in dramatic roles in STORM WARNING and ON MOONLIGHT BAY. The Rock/Doris/Tony team-ups are slick, clever and classy. Maybe the closest thing to screwball comedy of that era. I want to scream when people assume all romantic comedy is sophomoric. Watch anything with these three players, you'll know that's not the case. And that voice! I'm a little too young to have known her hey-day as a singer. I gather she was quite popular. It's easy to see why!

Well I'm a Doris Day fan ever since before I can remember. Love her. I've said it before and say it again, it's impossible to be sad after seeing some of Doris Day's movies.

“Romance On the High Seas” she was kind of a hep cat. And in “My Dream Is Yours” she's lovely. I remember the “Canadian Capers” number in the movie. She has such an infectious beautiful energy. And her singing...it's like creamy buttery velvety copper.

This lady could do it all - sing, dance, do comedy and dramatic roles. I believe her. Hmmmm, I wonder...say, I'd have love to see her in "The Days 0f Wine And Roses."

I know she had her ups and downs in real life. She was not the girl-next-door but a full-blown woman with all the trials, tribulations and triumphs we all have.

I'd give up half a year's pension to see TCM grab her for an interview at their film festival.

DORIS DAY - a singer who could act, and an actress who could sing. She is my favorite.

Wonderful actress, comedienne and of course, singer. I love her big band recordings. YOUNG MAN WITH A HORN showcases her singing, perhaps better than any other film of her career as her songs have a life of their own, and are not expressive of a character or persona.

She is also very dedicated to helping animals, especially through organizations like her own Doris Day Animal Foundation http://www.dorisdayanimalfoundation.org/

I wish she would visit the TCM festival, too, I even wrote to her asking if she would consider it. She was gracious enough to reply, declining of course, but sweetly.

Probably one of the most UNmovie star movie stars that was a Hollywood movie star. Your photo of her Miss G. is stunning!

Beautiful photo. Can you not love her CALAMITY JANE? A completely stupid movie, with only two things to recommend it. A pleasant musical score and one delightful player!

I adore Calamity Jane, and used to sing "My Love is Higher than a Hawk" to my son when he was a baby as one of his lullabies. It worked every time.

But when she said she was through, she pretty much was, except for that lovely voiceover she did for her Star of the Month last year. I adored it.

IMO Doris Day was the most successful female all-round entertainer in movie history, even though I consider Judy Garland more gifted, which is something considering she made her last film at age 44.

I think she embraced the changes in music in the yrs she was active, from her big band days in the early 40s through until the 1960s or even the tv 70s. I would even say that The Pyjama Game is a rock and roll musical with Doris contributing with the likes of There Once Was A Woman Who Loved A Man and that her hit Move Over Darling is one of the great recordings of the 1960s. Even in a fashion sense I''d say Doris adapted to change from the styles of the 40s through to the short skirted widow she played in the underrated 1968 film With Six You Get Egg Role in what was her last role oppisite Brian Keith.

I don't known if it was Doris herself or her then husband Marty, who turned down the role of Mrs. Robinson in The Graduate because it supposedly exploited woman, becuase I think it was a missed oportunity. While Anne Bancroft was sensational as Mrs. Robinson, I believe Doris was have been just as good.

I own favorite Doris movie was Calamity Jane. I also think that while her most famous romantic comedies were with Rock Hudson and James Garner, that her best performance of the genre was the earlier Teachers Pet with Clark Gable. I also think that in Teachers Pet Doris was at her most attractive with her short blonde hair and it's almost a pity that her stunning version of I'm The Girl Who Invented Rock An Roll was sung without musical back up.

Who would have ever thought that this would happen? I am so happy, it did, though!


Doris Day has given a new interview to the “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’” chart star Nancy Sinatra – this will be aired on her show ‘Nancy for Frank’ which is broadcast on the ‘Siriusly Sinatra’ music channel.

In the late 1940s, Doris notably recorded a best-selling duet “Let’s Take An Old-Fashioned Walk” with Nancy’s Father Frank. During the 1950s, Doris starred with Frank in the Warner musical movie ’Young At Heart‘.

We understand there will be two 3-hour programs all including Doris Day and Frank Sinatra music with interview clips interspersed during the show. It should be a great program and definitely one that DD fans will want to tune into. The first show should will air on June 23rd between 5-8PM (ET). More details coming soon!

Seems incredible no previous thread on Doris. This could be a very long one!
I think she deserved an Oscar for Calamity Jane, one of the best ever musical performances. I love "I can do without you" (Doris and Howard Keel).
Another favorite is Teacher's Pet . Of course Love Me or Leave me was a great part for Doris.
Nice too that Doris diversified into drama - I like Midnight Lace.
One of my favorite songs is the title song to Move Over Darling.
