All My Sons
All My Sons
Leave it to me to start a thread on a movie I barely remember. But that's why I'm doing it. What are some thoughts on this Arthur Miller based drama? Sad? Contemplative? Faithful to the play? I've seen it one time. Many years ago. I should watch it again. Of course, I liked the acting. Ed Robinson, Burt The Squirt. I remember enjoying the drama. Guilt and anguish. But most of the story has slipped from my consciousness.

Some of the best TV has been adapted from theatre. Especially PBS! I saw a SKIN OF OUR TEETH years ago. Olivier and Joanne Woodward did COME BACK, LITTLE SHEBA. And take some Valium before watching Steppenwolf's production of TRUE WEST. Lord almighty!

I used to love all those PBS theatre shows. Gosh, I'm quite sure I saw that production of THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH. I also liked all the O'Neill plays, a couple of whicj had Colleen Dewhurst and Jason Robards, another production of MOURNING BECOMES ELECTRA with Joan Hackett, and BEYOND THE HORIZON. Also an early Arthur Miller play about factory workers, and YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU. THE ROYAL FAMILY and my all time favorite, THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE hooked me on theatre for the rest of my life. and William Saroyan, not to mention Kaufman and Ferber.

It was in the early 1980's. Harold Gould was in it and very good.

That might have been ALL MY SONS. There's a storyline about a faulty product that caused some deaths. I love Kaufman and Ferber. If anything, even more than the more famed team of Kaufman and Hart. Another TV play I liked was THE GLASS MENAGERIE. Early 70's, I believe. With Kate Hepburn and an amazingly young Sam Waterston. To this day, the best acting of his career.

I think I probably saw that one too. I've always loved Sam Waterston. Even in The Great Gatsby. Or that movie where he was an indian.
And when I say I love Sam, I love Harold Gould that much more. Yes, that's the version of TSOOT I saw, Blair Brown was Sabina, and god, I fell so hard for Harold Gould that I even watched Golden Girls when he was on it. What a class act.

Jacks, I got to meet Mr. Gould back in the day! He was in a play at a local dinner theater, and we hung around the back door until he came out. Don't ask me what the play was, a comedy I'm sure, or the year...age has so many charms...bit this isn't one of them!
He was sweet, and very pleased to meet some fans.

I'm glad we have some Harold Gould fans. Someday you'll probably catch me confusing him with John Dehner. I almost did it yesterday! They just seem the same type to me. Did I dream this or is there a new GREAT GATSBY movie coming out? Leonardo DiCaprio? I'm sure we've talked about this. As KnitWit was saying, I forget stuff!

knitty, I am so JEALOUS! Gosh, I always dreamed I'd get to act with him someday. Isn't that a riot?
Red, there is a new version out, but it's a Baz Lurhmann picture, which means inappropriate music and a spin on the story to update it to our time. I will probably go see it, but it won't be what I hoped for. It might bring out some things in the story that are interesting though.
