The Silver Screen Oasis

I got a surprising phone call from my son in California a few minutes ago. He watched National Velvet from the beginning (a rare thing for him to watch anything made previous to about 1980). Apparently he was channel surfing, saw Mickey Rooney's name in the opening credits and stayed for the duration. However, his microwave dinged so he went to get his dinner, thinking he would return in time to hear what the Mom knew about Muy's father, but as he said, all of a sudden the movie was over. He thought his TV cut out or something. I don't remember what she knew, so can someone tell me?
