It's hard to remember the things you need when you need them. I can make a list of my favorite movies and leave out the best ones! And yes, I can make a shopping list, go to the store, and forget to look at the list! Duh!

INSP has been showing Ride Lonesome the last few weekends as part of their Friday - Sunday western movie actor tributes.
They have also shown Buchanan Rides Alone (1958) which was made a year before Ride Lonesome, and Comanche Station (made a year after).
All are good westerns with some fine actors like Claude Atkins (Comanche Station), and Pernell Roberts and James Coburn in Ride Lonesome.
All were directed by Budd Boetticher, who directed 7 out of the last 10 films Scott made.

Scanned this thread before watching A TRIBUTE TO A BAD MAN thinking I might find it here. No. Is it over-rated then, I doubt it. Under or over, depending on who you talk to. I thought Cagney was good enough (though true and die hard fans will probably disagree). The relationship with the girl, unlikely though it may seem, still dove-tailed realistically.
That it will stick is another thing (realistically) but the movie will have its way

A top-10 of the under-rated or just a top-10 50s westerns, period? I ask because I don't believe Shane and The Searchers are under-rated.
But note I don't agree with the entire concept of under-rated or over-rated since one is guessing the opinion of others. Unless one has polling data how would any of us know what is under-rated or over-rated; i.e. the opinions of the general viewing public.

Shane and The Searchers would be top 10. Probably The Big Country as well. High Noon might just miss. And I'm not a big fan of the popular Rio Bravo....it's good but might not make even a top 20 of the 50s for me.

I agree Shane, The Searchers, The Big Country and High Noon are 10 ten 50s westerns, but not that they are under-rated. The title of this thread is "most under-rated westerns of the 50s".
As for Rio-Bravo; yea, good but not a top western of the 50s (or any era).

If I had to pick one out of your very good list it would be The Bravados. The Bravados is not only under-rated but could easily be in a Top 20 if not Top 10 list.
