Modern Times

TCM showed Modern Times tonight with Chaplin and Paulette Goddard. I must say that Paulette looked smashing and the quality of this 1936 silent movie was astounding.

This classic film seems to have been well cared for. There are some fine prints circulating. And what a beauty it is. The timeless concept of man vs. technology, the ballet on roller skates, a misunderstanding that leads to prison. This wonderful film is rivalled only by the poetic CITY LIGHTS. If you could combine the best elements of both, you'd have the greatest movie ever made.
