Your Favorite Musical Sequences
I would imagine that most of us have a few favorite sequences from a Hollywood musical film (notably at MGM).
A few of many that I have enjoyed throughout the years include:
"Under the Bamboo Tree" performed by Judy Garland and Margaret O'Brien in "Meet Me in St. Louis".
"Once a Year Day" from the cast of "The Pajama Game".
"When the Midnight Choo-Choo Leaves for Alabam" performed by Judy Garland and Fred Astaire in "Easter Parade".
"Consider Yourself" performed by Jack Wild (the Artful Dodger) in "Oliver!".
"America" performed by the Sharks (notably Rita Moreno & George Chakiris) in "West Side Story".
What are some of your favorites?

Joseph Goodheart
"Paducah", from The Gang's All Here.
Not only does it kick off with a rare vocal performance by none other than its own composer/arranger: Mr. Benny Goodman, backed up by his own swingin' band, but midway he tosses it over to Carmen Miranda for a samba-rific wrap-up!
Runner-up -
"Come Back to Me!" from On a Clear Day.

I have several, but some that are really special to me are:
* * I Enjoy Being a Girl * * Nancy Kwan - Flower Drum Song
* * I like your Midnight Choo Choo but I prefer it by Dan Dailey and Ethel Merman in Theres No Business Like Show Business * *
* * Admittedly just reminded the other day - I Will Always Love You, by Dolly Parton, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas * *
* * I Cross My Heart - George Strait, in Pure Country * * I'm quite sure nobody has ever seen or heard my last one but the lyrics are warm and loving as he sings it to his girl, while sitting on the edge of the stage. The song completes the entire romance built up during the film.

My favourites:
The American in Paris Ballet (Gene Kelly & Leslie Caron)
Dancing in the Dark in The Bandwagon (Cyd Charisse & Fred Astaire)
Girl Hunt Ballet in The Bandwagon (Cyd Charisse & Fred Astaire)
Slaughter on 10th Avenue in Words and Music (Vera-Ellen & Gene Kelly)
Why am I so gone about that gal? in Les Girls (Mitzy Gaynor & Gene Kelly): hilarious parody of Marlon Brando in The Wild One.
As you can see, I am more interested in choreography than in lyrics and songs....

Johnm: We may not agree on everything, but boy, howdee! do we agree on musicals. I would add:
Anything from Victor/Victoria
the Elevator Dance from Thoroughly Modern Millie
but the number one, hands down favorite for me is
the Silk Stockings ballet from "Silk Stockings"
That one makes me cry every single time.

I have so many, here are some
The Broadway Melody sequence from Singin' in The Rain.
The ballet from An American In Paris
Dancing in The Dark from The Bandwagon
By A Waterfall from Footlight Parade
Girl Hunt Ballet from The Bandwagon
Pick Yourself Up from Swing Time
Gene Kelly dancing with his reflection in The Cover Girl
That's just for starters.

Great topic. But so many. I could write a book.
Off hand I'd pick a scene from 'She Loves Me Not'. as the best. Bing Crosby and Kitty Carlisle singing 'Love in Bloom' over the phone shown on a split screen. Great song, two singers who could really sing and beautifully done.
So many: Alice Faye singing 'This Year's Kisses' in 'On the Avenue'
Wini Shaw and 'the Lullaby of Broadway' in 'the Gold Diggers of 1935'
Dick Powell same film 'the Words are in my Heart' Powell in almost anything.
Doris Day 'It's Magic in 'Romance on the High Seas'
Bing Crosby 'It's Easy to Remember',' Mississippi'
Fred Astaire / Cyd Charisse, 'Dancing in the Dark', 'the Band Wagon'
Astaire, 'Bojangles', 'Swingtime'
Jessie Matthews, 'I nearly let Love Go Slippng Through My Fingers', 'It's Love Again'
Ginny Simms / Harry Babbitt, 'Humpty Dumpty Heart' Kay Kyser film, I forget name.
Lots more but I've taken up enough space. Suggestion: good topic for a poll. .... mel

Here are a whole bunch that I love (rendered in no particular order):
1. Night and Day—Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. For me, the apotheosis of romance
2. The Jumpin’ Jive—The Nicholas Brothers in Stormy Weather. Unbelievable
3. Over the Rainbow—Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz is my version of choice
4. Pass That Peace Pipe—Joan McCracken and Ray McDonald in Good News are energy personified
5. Lady Be Good—Artie Shaw and his Orchestra in a Vitaphone short. I’d love to dance to this, but I’d probably keel over
6. Dancing in the Dark—Astaire and Cyd Charisse in The Band Wagon
7. Singin’ in the Rain—Gene Kelly in Singin’ in the Rain
8. I Won’t Dance—Astaire rags it on the piano, he and Rogers sing it, and he then breaks his vow, from Roberta
9. From This Moment On—Bob Fosse, Bobby Van, Tommy Rall, Carol Haney, and Jeanne Coyne (Ann Miller briefly dances with them, but they are the ones who take my breath away)—Kiss Me Kate
10. The Man That Got Away—Judy Garland in A Star is Born. Chills up the spine-inducing
11. Taking a Chance on Love—Ethel Waters and Eddie Anderson in Cabin in the Sky
12. An American in Paris Ballet—Kelly and Leslie Caron in An American in Paris
13. Caro Nome from Rigoletto—Anna Maria Alberghetti in Here Comes the Groom
14. Hallelujah—especially love Kay Armen’s singing and Ann Miller’s tap dancing at the end of Hit the Deck
15. I Fall in Love Too Easily—Sinatra in Anchors Aweigh
16. Be Careful, It’s My Heart—Bing Crosby in Holiday Inn. The dance ain’t bad, either—Marjorie Reynolds and some guy that was in that movie with them...
17. It’s Magic—Doris Day in Romance on the High Seas
18. Tess’s Torch Song and Jive Number—Dinah Shore and Danny Kaye in Up in Arms absolutely crack me up!
19. Hola E Pae—danced (in an amazing mixture of tap and Hawaiian style dancing) by Eleanor Powell in Honolulu
20. Isn’t It Romantic—sung by Maurice Chevalier, Jeanette MacDonald and others in Love Me Tonight

I've been thinking about this for days and it's so hard to come up with anything when there is so much. But my first answer is:
"Stairway to Paradise" from American in Paris
Shirley Temple dancing with:
Bill Robinson
Jack Haley and Alice Faye
Buddy Ebsen
Oliver Hardy singing "Lazy Moon" in Pardon Us, and L&H dancing together in Way Out West
Ann Miller and/or Eleanor Powell and/or the Nicholas Brothers dancing in anything
"The Alphabet Song" in The Three Stooges Swingin' the Alphabet
Most of the specialty numbers written by Sylvia Fine for Danny Kaye
Jessie Matthews' "Dancing on the Ceiling" from Evergreen
