Ha! Thank you, Musical Maven! If there was a piano in the lobby, we'd probably still be there...

We all got up terribly early this morning to watch the Olympic torch passing by, it passed by the end of our road at 7.15 but we went down there nice and early to get a good view, it was crowded with lots of school children, all of my kids friends seemed to be up early cheering it on. A once in a lifetime moment, to be treasured. I'm looking around on the internet for footage but for now this is the best I can do

Carrying on from this is our Diamond Jubilee weekend, tomorrow the bunting goes on the house, the Union Jack is already adorning our house. A 4 day break for most of us, to celebrate the most wonderful monarch. Elizabeth II has dedicated her life to the UK, I can't say I'm jealous about any other countries leaders, let us have our Queen and long may she reign over us.

Please everyone, toast the Queen this weekend :D

It was all over the news this morning, stories about the Queen and such. Most are commenting on how she's managed to change with the times, and yet remain rock solid as a monarch, how she dedicated herself at 21 to serving her people, and she never has regretted that decision.

God Save the Queen! I will definitely be celebrating this weekend, and watching all the festivities!

These photos reminded me that as a child, I always loved getting stamps from the UK to put into my stamp collecting book, because I thought the Queen's was the most beautiful image I'd ever seen.

I just love this photo because the Queen looks so cheeky, like she has a fun secret:

If you get chance watch the programme Prince Charles has made as a tribute to her, it's home movies, it shows moments from his childhood and it finishes with a film on the plane on the way home after discovering that she was now Queen. It brings a tear to the eye.

Those pictures are lovely Wendy, she is such a beautiful lady and such a young Queen, a beauty she has even to this day, she has an inate sense of style that even with the stylists that she must have I still don't know how she does it.

Someone gave me a copy of a newspaper from the day she became Queen. It is not in very good shape but I can still read it. It is interesting to see how American news covered it.

I should have though they'd have been really nice about her, American media are always nice about our monarchy. A nice thing to keep hold of, 60 years, a lifetime, my parents only just remember George VI.

You are welcome, kingme! Glad you liked them.

We saw a preview for the new movie about FDR last night, and there are some scenes with George VI visiting America. He seems to be overtaking his brother in movie depictions lately, which is kind of nice.

My Elizabeth was asking me to name my top 5 monarchs, I named George VI, my others being Elizabeth I, Henry II, Charles II and Elizabeth II, she was intrigued because she thought I'd go for the longest serving monarchs who had more chance to do good works, but explaining to her just what he achieved, he took the crown in a moment of chaos and confusion after never being trained for it and suffering from a speech impediment and took Britain through the Second World War and becoming beloved to the country, in 16 years. Very few thought he had it in him but he proved them wrong.

I'm intrigued too! That's a very interesting list. I wonder how many think more highly of George VI than most other kings, nowadays?
