There was a vote in one of the papers, the top three monarchs were all women, first was Elizabeth II, then Elizabeth I, then Victoria and the highest ranking king was Henry VIII which woludn't have been my choice for the way he treated his wives.

Henry VIII. Well, we do that here in America too...vote against our own best interests. My father remembers being a little boy when the King & Queen visited NY and all the schools were closed down as a holiday.

The good news is today has to be better than yesterday. In the 8 hours between being off work and finally getting to sleep I had to deal with a broken car, an upset daughter and two trips to the mall at 20 minutes a clip one way to pick up my daughter's boyfriend who first needed a ride then didn't (after I got there) only to find out at 1:30am his ride left him. Back to the mall, where a new casino just opened, only to arrive home at 2:20am.

The casino is already proving interesting. I saw my first police foot chase while listening to an episode of Lucille Ball's radio show "My Favorite Husband." And I thought nothing interesting ever happens to me.

Chris, are you sure you weren't PART of that foot chase? I probably would have committed mayhem if not murder on this 'boyfriend' of your daughter's.....

April:

I get a podcast called "Legacy of Laughs" from itunes where there are old radio shows. This one I had was the one with Lucy.* Never heard of the show but thought I might be here for a few minutes so I'd check it out. So at 12:15am I'm listening and waiting. I woke my daughter up with a phone call as to when I might expect him and that is when I found out he was to have a ride. Maureen ripped a new one according to him for the confusion. Of course that was short lived when I found out having returned home and was in bed that I had to go out again.

Nancy:

No, I wasn't part of it. I thought it odd that someone would go running through the parking lot but after about 10 seconds here come three of Anne Arundel county's finest in pursuit. And what pops into my mind? "Drums Along The Mohawk." In a perverted way it reminded me of the Indians chasing Fonda. The police are coming in different intervals and at different speeds. Then the reminder was broken when a police car with lights flashing and a security officer on a bike follows along. The man had nowhere to run and was quickly apprehended.

Luckily, it was an uneventful ride home. I have no idea what awaits the boyfriend as a result of Maureen's frustration of the whole thing but he'll get no grief from me. I figure he's had enough already.

(*I've also had shows with Jack Benny, Red Skelton, Milton Berle, Fred Allen and Mel Blanc.)

You are a sweetheart Chris! Poor thing!

And the casino thing, I've been there. When our casino opened years ago, you wouldn't believe the mayhem it caused. Working at the bank was especially hard, as we had customers who had always been reliable become addicted to gambling and run through their entire life savings. Sad.

When the casino was voted on a couple of years ago we were lead to believe it was going to be built in the vicinity of the mall but separate. Even the plans looked like there would be a buffer between it. When they built it they put it right in the parking lot.

Generally, I have no problem with them. They're slots and video games. People can do what they want. I wasn't against it. If it keeps my taxes lower (which is nearly an impossible thing in MD) then go for it.

It was an interesting looking crowd. Old ladies with walkers and people of all ages walking down the middle of the street. With all that I'm not going to let him sit in a parking lot all night. Maureen needed her sleep. I sure wasn't going to let her go.

Thanks for the kind comments.

I would say that once the town stabilizes after the building of the casino, everything is fine. Ours pretty much saved our area, the tourism is something we depend on here in Mystic, and everything was going downhill fast before they opened.

Was it due to hamburger all over the highway?

I'm not talking about "hate". I'm talking about "ate". Dinner at eight! Let's eat! (More sugar!)

Thank you, dear friends. (Now back to our regularly scheduled program. Excuse my 45 year digression.)
