Hey, thanks for the greetings, guys. As soon as the drugs wear off (ever feel as though your brain was wrapped in cotton wool?) I'll try to add something coherent here. Freedom from the hospital and people bursting into your room asking "How do we feel?" at 3:25 in the morning is just about all I can ask for right now.

I'm sorry to have read that you were in the hospital. And I'm happy to read you've been released. Girl, I hope all is okay with you. Please do take care,

Yes take care Moira, at least they've let you home so that you can recover from being in hospital. Here's to a unbroken nights sleep and hopefully you'll feel more yourself.

Ah, we don't have it, I'd just have to make do with the sleep or a good DVD

Had to bump this thread up to say what good news it is to have SSO back up and running so we can chat with our movie buddies. Thanks to everyone who worked to re-capture the site and return it to its real purpose.

Is anyone else as fascinated by names as I am? The Social Security administration, bless 'em, counts the names of people born in different years and keeps a running list of the most popular names. For 2011 it's Jacob and Sophia. When I was growing up, Sophia was a very old-fashioned name, like Isabella and Emma (my grandmother's middle name). Now all are in vogue again. Carol, such a popular name back then, is now barely in the top 1000. We're now in Madison/Addison madness, with both in the top 10 for girls. Movies and TV have everything to do with the changing trends. Soap opera babies named Amanda and Jessica led the return to popularity of those formerly old-fashioned names.

The website will list the most popular names for a particular year, and you can also plug in a name and see how its popularity has risen and fallen over the years. Fashions in girls' names change more rapidly and more drastically than boys' names.

If Sophia and Emma are popular again, is there hope for Irma and Thelma and Eunice?

I love looking at the name lists. Ours too are split into traditional names and names from more recent times. Emily, Grace and Alice are really popular here, Alice being both my Grandmothers Christian names and seeming so old fashioned when I was growing up, some names like Elizabeth and Emma always seen to have been in the list somewhere. Traditional boys names have come back to Thomas, James and Oliver are really popular. When I was growing up all there seemed to be lots of Davids, Andrews and Martins, there's not one in Joe's school. I found it easier to name a girl, thee seemed to be more choice and we agreed on more names, with a boy it was harder, we only agreed on Joseph, my main objection being that for everything Chris suggested one of my friends already had a boy of that name, silly really but seemed important at the time.

My bride won't be too happy to hear about the status of "Carol."

It is nice to have the SSO back.

Maven, just get a Kardashian to name her daughter Bertha and back it will soar! Apparently Mason was the no. 2 boys' name in 2011 because a Kardashian spawn, um, offspring, was named Mason.

CCFan, I was in a junior high physical education class where there were 8 boys named David. A former co-worker had a young son named Robert. When she told the day care teacher his name, the teacher said, "We haven't had a Robert in a long time!" A lot of his classmates had country singer names like Travis and Cody. A popular girls' name a few years ago among some religious groups was "Nevaeh," which is "heaven" spelled backwards.

Movieman, some future generation will rediscover that Carol is a lovely name and it will then be back in fashion.

So glad to visit the SSO, old Building and Loan pals. This is my home away from home.

What about the name Octavia(My grandmother's name) and Delaney(A sweet auntie)? And Bess(A another sweet auntie)? And Fanny? (My other grandmother's name.) I even had an aunt named Tennessee who was nicknamed Tennie for short.
Sincerely,
Christy
