Oh, CharlieT - I am so sorry! I hope everything is getting sorted out.

How nice, though, to have such a lovely birthday present - a bride for your birthday! Which anniversary is this for you??

My fondest wishes that this year will be better- Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary.

Hi CharlieT,
I hope that next year the day will be a happier one full of joy on your birthday and your anniversary. All the best to you and your bride. I am glad that she has a thoughtful person like you to help in an unexpectedly sad time. In any case, it is always good to see you here. Hope that you'll share your impressions of your reading and movie viewing again soon when you have the time.

Thank you all. This was 37 years for the two of us. Her dad had been hospitalized since mid-December, so we had plenty of time to cope with the idea of his passing. The worst part of it all was fighting our way through a snowstorm on the 15th to retrieve dress clothing. Our normal 2 hour and 45 minute trip home took 4 and a half hours. Probably could have used a team of huskies, Klondike. I'll be sure to pass on your condolences to my wife. Thanks again.

Let's return this thread to Wendy. I feel like I've high-jacked it. :?

Not at all, Charlie! Please feel free to spend time chatting here. I think the thread was kaput anyway.

I know it must be hard to have to deal with all of that coming in one day. You are the strength for your wife, but who takes care of you? We do.... so please, don't feel bad at all.

Thanks. As I used to tell my daughter, "You're a doodle!" And believe me, it was a compliment. :)

That's cute! May I use it? I like the idea of calling someone a "doodle".

Charlie T:

I am so sorry, believe me when I say I know how you feel. My husband died on our 11th anniversary at exactly the same time as our wedding time began. My Mom died on my birthday, My daughter died on Mother's Day, and Dad, two days after Father's Day. As you can see, I have very few holidays left to 'be happy' on.

Wendy, you can doodle to your heart's content.

Thanks, Anne. It's certainly sad to lose someone on or about a time associated with pleasant memories. My mother-in-law died on the anniversary of our daughter being released from the neonatal unit of OSU hospital - a date we always celebrated. We haven't done it since. But some of the sadness is muted by the knowledge that their suffering is over. Both of my parents went through long and painful declines before death released them and that gave us a reason to rejoice for their passing on to a better place. I always enjoy the reminiscing that accompanies the gathering of family and friends that happens with death. I found out things about my grandfather that I had never heard before... like when he chased my father around the kitchen table brandishing a frying pan because of something Dad did that ticked him off. These are the kind of stories that are often repeated and keep the memories alive of those we've lost. We won't lose our joy at our anniversary, but we will take time to remember her Dad.

My deep sympathies Charlie. Anything we can do to help you let us know. We are at least a pleasant diversion for you.
