Death of the GOP ?

This is a thread that I am somewhat reluctant to post, but here goes.a few day ago eleven GOP Congressman had a meeting with President Bush and said that if he didn't change course in Iraq the GOP would face huge electoral losses. Why does it seem that politicians ( not just the GOP ones ) are more concerned about electoral death and not the real death of thousands most of whom are civilian.
