Shooting in Arizona at Least 11 Shot

At least 11 people were shot attending an event being hosted by U.S. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords ( D - Arizona ), the congresswoman was among the victims. Early reports that she was shot in the head.

NPR reports that MsGiffords has died. Six people were also killed. MSNBC & CNN say that she is still alive.

Giffords is still alive. A surgeon is optimistic about her chances for recovery. A federal judge was killed in the shooting. Five other victims are in critical condition. A child. brought to the hospital after the shooting, has died.

A man has been arrested in connection with the killing.

Giffords' chief surgeon has reported to the press that she is now capable of minimal, non-verbal communication when awake, so has been upgraded from grave to guarded.

Mr. Obama in his speech tonight announced that MsGiffords opened her eyes for the first time since she was hospitalized today.

This hit a lot of people with force. Even Jon Stewart opened his comedy show on Monday with a very solemn rant against the people who would do such a thing. You could see he was quite touched by all of it.
