Virtual Hands Grasped in Prayer For Those in Connecticut...

Post by Sue Sue Applegate »

Dear SSO Friends,

Let us grasp each other's virtual hands and pray for the children and families in Connecticut ...

To send peace and healing to those involved in the tragedies...

It's headlines here, needless to say we can't comprehend the suffering the families and communities must be feeling. We will be praying and keeping those in our thoughts and hearts.

Star Of The Evening
James M. Sayle

Beautiful star in heav’n so bright,
Softly falls thy silb’ry light,
As thou movest from earth afar,
Star of the evening, beautiful star.

Beautiful star,
Beautiful star,
Star of the evening, beautiful star.

In fancy’s eye thou seem’st to say,
Follow me, come from earth away.
Upward thy spirit’s pinions try,
To realms of love beyond the sky.

Shine on, oh star of love divine,
And may our soul’s affection twine
Around thee as thou movest afar,
Star of the twilight, beautiful star.

I can't help but think of those little children as stars tonight, moving toward heaven. Its the only thing keeping me from losing it today.

It's so difficult to grasp what happened emotionally, and I didn't personally know any of these children or adults who were affected. A hundred years ago or so, we might not have known about this tragedy for months if we had lived away from large cities. But the immediacy of every tragedy now affects our daily lives.

Wendy, your poem about the stars is peaceful comfort, and for me, saying prayers is all I can contribute to the ease of suffering for the moment.

I really am at a loss for any words to say, it's too shocking to comprehend.

Such a nice poem and a nice image Wendy.

Me, too, kingme.
Allison, it leaves me stunned, too. I've dealt with emergency situations in a classroom before, but nothing ever like what happened in Connecticut.

God be with the families of all the victims in Connecticut this weekend. There are no words that can describe what they must be going through. And God bless those little children. Crimes of this nature are always horrific.. but even more so when children are involved.

Thanks for this thread Miss Applegate, And yes, pray dear friends.. pray and ask God to be with each and every one. And may he be with our own children as well.

While I do not ever presume to know what is best and can't really tell others what to do, I also just want to ask any parents of younger (or even teenage) children who may be reading this.. to PLEASE think about what you let your kids see and hear in the coming days. It will be very tempting to want to watch the news and find out all the details.. but please, oh please.. keep your children from it. Send them out of the room during all the constant reporting and graphic details, if you have to.. help them find something else to think and do and dwell on in the midst of all the reporting .

Sit down and talk to you kids instead.... reassure them and tell them that you love them.. and if possible, keep the tv off.. if only for a while.

It is a sad time in our nation indeed.. and a sad time for the world in general. This is a tragedy that will affect everyone somehow, because it hits home.. nothing is more precious than our kids. And we are all in need of comfort after a moment in time like this. God bless us.. everyone.

Kathy, we've purposely left the TV off for this entire week. It's troubling enough for adults. Alice had already heard about it at school somehow. The kids at school are doing all sorts of things to try and help others this week, the little children shall lead the way....

Our kids know all about it too, I've had the TV news off, I have heard it was mainly 6 and 7 year olds, the class age of my son Joe. It makes me want to hug them all the tighter, as I'm sure it does for all of us. God bless the dead and their families. Days in and the shock hasn't lessened, it's completely unfathomable and utterly shocking.
