Rock 'n' Roll was a direct outgrowth of R & B. It took over all the
things that made R & B different than big band swing.
-- Johnny Otis

Musician, bandleader, singer, songwriter, bridge from R & B to
Rock 'n' Roll, and discoverer and promoter of great talent, including
Little Willie John, Hank Ballard & the Midnighters, Little Esther,
Big Mama Thornton, The Robins (later The Coasters) and Etta James.

Greek-American music giant John Veliotes -- aka Johnny Otis -- has
died at the age of 90. Rock'em in Heaven, Johnny!

Johnny Otis had a son named Shuggie who was another kind
of musical genius who more or less came and went in the early
70s and left behind some remarkable psychedelic rhythm & funk…

Hi Everybody!!!

I've listened to some good music here off and on. But then I got to thinkin' how selfish I've been. Only listening. So I thought it was high time I contributed some records to this on-going party. Now I admit, the first record is a dig to the good classic film football fans who live in New England and might be rooting for the Patriots in the upcoming Superbowl game. I wanted to tell 'em Eli's Coming. (That's Eli Manning and the New York Giants for you who don't know...or care).

And then I couldn't stop at just one. The music of THREE DOG NIGHT is infectious. I defy anyone NOT to start tapping their toes when they listen to their 'blue-eye soul' harmonies. They're three good looking guys, with great lyrics, fine music and wonderful voices. So here is my contribution to Dewey's Record Party. Enjoy the music of Three Dog Night.

ELI'S COMING...

EASY TO BE HARD...

Whew! It really is hard to stop after just one. Hmmm...that soaring voice of Chuck Negron's thrills and chills me. But I don't want to wear out my welcome. I think I'll go to iTunes right now and purchase some Three Dog Night. Have a listen. Thanx!

DJ Maven!! I never thought I'd live to see the day!
Hey, DJ Dewey digs the TDN big time--ever since
he (sorry 'bout the third person jive) saw 'em live
at the Grandee Ballroom in Detroit back in '69.
Here's founding member DANNY HUTTON a few
years earlier with his 1964 semi-hit
ROSES AND RAINBOWS

and here he is in 2009 performing the same
tune live at Amoeba record store in L.A. ...

Welcome to the staff of Dewey's Record Party…we've
been waiting for you…
And here with the Official Welcome
Aboard theme song, is house band

I'll never forget Kid Creole's stint in the movie "AGAINST ALL ODDS." Like 'em.

That Danny Hutton - Three Dog Night connection got me thinking
above session guys and songwriters who decide to make a recording,
its success is minimal, they fade back into the shadows and then
become biggies. Like:

Dr. John
Mac Rebennack & the Soul Orchestra The Point

Glen Campbell Turn Around, Look At Me

Kid Creole looks like he could be Charlie Chaplin's son. Look at those eyes.

It seems like a long time since we last stood on the street corner
to listen to some rare Doo-Wop jewels.

Well alright, DJ-ChiO, you sure know how to drag a guy outta his
work cage! The mere suggestion of street corner doo woo sends
this boy into paroxysms of uninhibited rhythmic gyrations! Here's
what's currently ratlin' the earwax on DJ Dewey's iPod:
THE PARKTOWNS "That Day Will Never Come"

THE TELLERS (feat Timmy Lymon) "I Wanna Run To You"

THE CHANNELS "Now You Know"

THE KODAKS "Little Boy and Girl"

THE JESTERS "So Strange"

THE VOLUMES "Come Back Into My Heart"
