That's my mom's and dad's era too, ChiO. Well, I mean they were just coming into adulthood at that time. I know my mom loved Dick Haymes.

Congratulations to your folks! It's wonderful they've been together for so long.

Thanks (on behalf of Mom and Dad).

They survived me and my music (luckily for them, I was long out of the house by the time my Dick Haymes - Joey Ramone - came along). Their music was so L7.

But, then again, maybe that's the secret.

Here's a new video from some friends of mine:

Scott Asheton, 64, drummer for the beloved Stooges, has died
and joined his brother, Ron, to propel an Eternal Rock 'n' Roll band.

It's so hard, because they were so VITAL, frenetic, uncaged. But I can think of no better epitaph:
This is the Stooges. So f*** off.

That brought a smile to my face, too.

Who would have believed forty years ago that Iggy would be the last man standing? I look at him, Keith Richards, and Jerry Lee Lewis and have to believe that something very close to immortality is possible.

I was thinking almost that very same thing, ChiO, about the longevity of these hard rocking, hard living performers. Perhaps somewhere along the way they preserved themselves with all the alcohol and drugs? A magic combination cocktail?

I guess it all comes down to good genes. Or something else. :D

Yesterday was mid-Lent and sometimes one needs an energy burst.
So off we went to our favorite hipster (yes, the youngest couple in
the room) bar with 100 or so of our favorite Chicago scenesters to
hear:

Favorite inter-song discourse: I was just fired by my girlfriend after
eight years. She said I didn't bring any added-value to the relationship.

Kind of a combo on Randy Newman and Daniel Johnston.

Followed by the guy who's taking him on a quasi-national tour: Jon
Langford
. Not via The Mekons (the greatest band in history), or the
Waco Brothers, or the Pine Valley Cosmonauts, or even the Three Johns
or him as a solo- but Skull Orchard:
