Here's one more bad film title, apropos of today -- Ash Wednesday (1973). Hunh? :?

This little idea seems to be taking on a life of its own. And we all reap the benefits.

Leave it to CineMaven to spot Hitch's propensity to go to the Heart, one way or another.
And Eric is right, the twist on the fondly remembered use of "Usual Suspects" is a gem title.
I agree, kingrat, The Pope of Greenwidh Village would be a better title for a comedy. Perhaps you thought you were going to see The Pope Must Die, title changed by the faint-hearted to The Pope Must Diet. That was a comedy, but you wouldn't know it from the original title.
Love both your lists, Professional Tourist, especially the explanations attached to the "Worsts" list, and agree The Red Balloon is a perfect title. As for Ash Wednesday, maybe it was a typo and the "h" was supposed to be another "s."

Keep up the good efforts, gang. There's lots of Gems and Stinkers out there!

Hey Masha, you're sneaking cartoons into your lists. "Easter Yeggs" is a Bugs Bunny short cartoon. It's a good one, too.

I really enjoyed "The Reincarnation of Peter Proud."

Yeah, but sometimes his titles are not-so-descriptive. Like North by Northwest -- doesn't really give any idea of what the picture is about.

Yes. I just picked the titles that were descriptive and speak to me.

Director-writer-producer-actor-cinematographer Ray Dennis Steckler may be associated with more great movies with great titles than anyone (working on the fringes helps). Of those I've seen:

Eegah (1962) - actor, uncredited assistant cameraman, starring the inimitable Arch Hall, Jr.
Wild Guitar (1962) - director & actor, starring the inimitable Arch Hall, Jr.
The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies (1964) - director, actor, producer, starring Cash Flagg (aka Ray Dennis Steckler)
The Thrill Killers (1964) - director, actor, writer, producer, starring Cash Flagg (aka Ray Dennis Steckler)
Rat Pfink a Boo Boo (1966) - director, writer, producer, cinematographer

and the piece de resistance...

The World's Greatest Sinner (1962) - cinematographer, starring...TIMOTHY CAREY

All-round auteur.

I love movies. But don't get me wrong. I hate Hollywood. -- Orson Welles

Great list Masha. I'd love to see a film called Thud and Blunder.

Chio, who could resist a movie with the title Eegar? And The IncrediblY Strange ... is almost as great a title as

Dr. Strangelove Or: .... By the way, Eric, I'd never seen that trailer before, and I consider it easily the absolute BEST ever made. Makes me want to watch the film again right away. Thanks for passing it on.

Now, I've got a new little game for all of you... but it's a SECRET!
