Author Preston Neal Jones, who wrote Heaven and Hell to Play With-The Making of NIght of the Hunter, which was published in 2004, attended the 2013 screening of Charles Laughton´s only directorial effort at the Egyptian Theatre during the Turner Classic Film Festival 2013, and was introduced by TCM´s Shannon Clute after his wonderful discussion to the 1955 film starring Robert Mitchum, Lillian Gish, Shelley Winters, and Billy Chapin.

Jones has just completed Return to Tomorrow-The Making of Star Trek, The Motion Picture, which is scheduled for publication in October, and here is an article link concerning his new book, Return To Tomorrow reveals backstories of the making of 'Star Trek:The Motion Picture' :

Here's a mini-update on the Turner Classic Film Festival 2015:

Image
Scott McGee (standing) usually hosts the initial Meet The TCM Panel at the Turner Classic Film Festival.

Scott McGee just stated on the Hollywood Time Machine on LA Talk Radio that an announcement about the TCMFF 2015 is coming very soon! He was very upbeat about TCM's future, the festival and the cruise. It's been a great show with hosts Will McKinley and Alicia Mayer. They asked some great questions! The Roosevelt is all booked up now, David. And they charged me $301.29 for the privilege of reserving my room for the festival. Ouch.
But I am so tickled that I will get to see you in March!

Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel Issues 2015...

Post by Sue Sue Applegate »

THE LATEST FROM CONSUMER REPORTER SUE SUE:

The Holllywood Roosevelt Hotel has instituted a new policy of charging at least the cost of a one-night stay for TCM Film Festival guests, and I have received many messages concerning the policy, of which I am not particularly fond.

Please check your credit card/debit card accounts if you made a reservation. Some pass holders have contacted me and told me that they have been charged this fee ( $300 +) and were not told that their credit card/debit card accounts would be charged for at least one night. (So patrons are paying for one night of their stay almost six months ahead of time for the privilege of making a reservation.) This is a new policy regarding TCM Film Festival reservations begun this year.

One pass holder stated that a charge was not applied in this particular reservation because of a "Preferred Thompson Hotel Guest" status.

Some have been told that if they cancel a reservation, they will lose the $300+ fee they have been charged. Others have not.

This is a Thompson Hotel Policy, and not a TCM policy. Please review your charges. If you have any problems, contact reservations first, or the managing director of the hotel who is listed as Kevin Barnes.

PERSONAL UPDATE: I have cancelled my original reservation at the HRH. After being told I was going to be charged $301.29 to make a reservation for the TCMFF 2015, which is almost six months away, I was actually charged $306.29 I am awaiting my refund as I was told I should receive it in the next 24-48 hours. Here's hoping!

GREED: It's what's for dinner.

Hi Christy and David,

I managed to secure a room at the Roosevelt for the Festival; so will see you there..

If you've cancelled at the Roosevelt, then where are you staying? Hopefully, not at the "W" as you know how I hate that place, after the lousy service we got last April.
David - where are you camping out?

Also, I don't see the Vanity Fair party advertised on any of the passes. Which one should I shoot for?

Love,
Larry

Dear Larry, the Spotlight Pass, at $1649 is your all access pass to the Opening Night Gala Premiere, the Red Carpet, the special breakfasts, one or two as yet unannounced special events, and the Vanity Fair party.

With Audrey's dress and a very nice gentleman...
(The cost of each of the passes rose my $50, which I don't think is very much. What we receive in return is always incalculable. :D )

Here is the link to the updated Turner Classic Film Festival website: http://filmfestival.tcm.com
(If you listen to the video, toward the end you can hear me say in the voiceover that "I've been to all five festivals." One of the crews taped a short interview with me last year, and they used that line.)

Can you see the Hollywood letters in the distance? This is the Hollywood and HIghland Center with lots of retail shops and restaurants, kiosks and costly kitsch.
I will still be bunking at the Roosevelt as far as I know, but have made other arrangements. :D

Looking forward to seeing everyone in March next year! (Hopefully MrCutter can join us for the annual Wednesday night dinner as there should be no trade show conflicts next year!).

Can't wait to see y'all!
