Thanks, Erik!

19 years ago today Ginger Rogers passed away, and her hilarious performance in The Major and The Minor inspired me to name this column after her character in the film. I added an extra 'e' so as not to infringe on any copyright or confuse it with Zu-Zu's petals in It's A Wonderful Life. I first saw this film with my mother, Dorothy, and she loved this film, too.

She also adored Ray Miland. :D

I was lucky enough to see 'Triple-Threat' Ginger Rogers in a dinner theatre performance in Houston. She was something else!

After the festival, I took a day trip to Palm Springs, and my friend Sam and I stopped to take photos near the gated entrance to the Bob Hope estate. As I'm snapping this photo, the electronic surveillance shouts out, "Get back in your car and leave now!" I complied immediately just after I snapped this photo. :-)

Here are some more photos from the Red Carpet Rumba prior to the Gala Restoration screening of "Oklahoma" in the TCL Chinese Theatre where Robert Osborne interviewed Shirley Jones...

Image
Margaret O'Brien, who attended the festival to introduce "Meet Me In St. Louis," was very popular on the red carpet...

Image
Ms. O'Brien was kind enough to autograph my original sheet music from 1942's "Meet Me in St. Louis" when I ran into her in the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel Lobby. Thank you, Ms. O'Brien! :-)

Image
Robert Osborne pal Diane Baker, who chairs programs at San Francisco's Academy of Art and is executive director of Motion Pictures and Television, jokes with a reporter as Alec Baldwin is in the background...

Image
Arts Meme journalist Debra Levine and Oscar-winner George Chakiris...

Image
Elizabeth and Richard Sherman are a delightful couple, and spent quality time with media on the red carpet. Sherman was a special guest at the screening of Mary Poppins. The film "Saving Mr. Banks" chronicled some of the struggles Walt Disney experienced in ushering Poppins to the screen, and featured Sherman brothers' part in the creation of the iconic film. Richard Sherman spent a lovely hour in Club TCM playing songs he created from "Mary Poppins," "Winnie The Pooh," and "The Jungle Book," as well as Annette Funicello's first big hit, "Tall Paul." Sue Sue votes Mr. Sherman as the energizer bunny of the TCMFF 2014!

Image
Charles Tabesh (Senior VP of Programming), Dennis Adamovich (Senior VP of Digital Activation), Oscar-winning actress Shirley Jones, TCM General Manager Jeff Gregor, and Genevieve McGillicuddy (Managing Director of the TCM Film Festival) in their best Red Carpet poses....

Larry, David, Lynn and Countess, here's what I was doing at the Social Media Crew Roundup at Sadie's on Wednesday night...

Passholders, media professionals, and TCM celebrities abounded at the Social Media Crew Roundup at Sadie's. Ben Mankiewicz and Illeana Douglas were both there, as well as Scott McGee. All the Tweeters from TCM Party were there, as well as Ultimate Fan Tiffany Vaszuez.

I haven't remarked here at the ranch ( but I have over at SSO FB ) but you did some really great reporting on the festival Christy. Words and pictures. 8)

Hey ‘Baby T.’ It’s ‘Big T’ here and I want to let you know I finally had a quiet moment to sit down with your post of your TCMFF experience. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Theresa Madere wrote:I did run into Christy and Big T (Cinemaven) on the red carpet and gave both of them a big hug while watching Big T video all the excitement. They were both beautiful and grinning from ear to ear with enthusiasm. I loved watching it!

Doesn't she look glamorous? I am sitting in the bleachers cheering and filming the stars walking down the red carpet. ( I'm sitting right above the letter "O" in "Oklahoma." )

Now even though you ‘scolded’ me and called me out on the carpet ( a-hem, the ‘red’ carpet ) with a “Where have you been?!” ( )
I see you made the MOST of your festival experience even though you & I were like ships that passed in the night.

You got hugs from Ben Mank, discussed vintage fashion with Margaret O’Brien ( and by the by...I LOVE that photo of you leaning over to chat with Ms. O’Brien at the Vanity Fair Party ), had a few bon mots with Leonard Maltin about Loretta Young’s pre-codes ( look at you, girl!!! ), ‘ran’ into Kim Novak on the stairs AND palled around with the 3 Amigas of “TCM-City”:

( Paula, Lynn and Christy )

I'd say you got the most out of your TCMFF experience, even IF "Blazing Saddles" wasn't quite your cuppa:

Image Image
( Cleavon Little - a new sheriff in town )

I was there at that screening and I have to say seeing Mel Brooks’ classic blazing up there on the big screen of Grauman’s Chinese, was one of the highlights of my festival experience. The movie is, as you say, “so in your face” and I love it for its audaciousness. ( Your reference to Ethel Smith in “Bathing Beauty” absolutely tickled me, since she’s one of my favorite moments in one of my favorite movies. )

Thank you also for the shout-out in your piece about the festival. I saw I was mentioned ( and in good company. ) You and I did connect although ever so briefly.

Oh wow...Yes, I remember seeing you and chatting for a few. I put in a good two hours being first on the Spotlight Pass holders line to see Maureen O’Hara and I also was at the Home Movies in Club TCM.

( CineMaven holdin' it down while waiting to see the legendary Maureen O'Hara )

Baby T., you really weaved some wonderful personal stories together with your festival experience and again, just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed, and re-lived the experience.

Oh goodness me! I didn't realize you posted my thread on here! Heehee! How incredibly sweet, big T! I have been neglecting this wonderful place, unfortunately. I hope I can stop by more!

Thank you for the loverly comments to my writings! It was so wonderful to see you and spend a little time with you! i didn't realize you were also at the "Home Movies". I hope you enjoyed that as much as I did!

I LOVE the pic of you in front of the poster for Ms. O' Hara. So awesome! You deserved to enjoy that for the two hours you sacrificed standing in line. Have you recovered yet. Some people are telling me they are still re-cooperating. Heehee! I recovered as soon as I woke up on Monday and wanted to start all over. :)

Hey there Glamor T. To be accurate, all thanxxx should go to our roving reporter: SueSue ( :D ) for putting you on blast here at the Oasis. She's the one who initially cited your link for those who might be curious to read your experience. It was her link that got me over to you. ( I have trouble navigating the "new" ( ) and "improved"

I have recovered...but I sort of haven't recovered from TCMFF V. I get flashes of moments, and pangs when I look at my crumpled up schedule all dog-earred and magic markered and highlighted.

The great time I had will come flooding back once I figure out how to present the footage I shot this year, without being repetitive of my past two filmed experiences. Is a TCMFF VI in the cards for you for next year? I wouldn't miss it for the world. ( P.S. And what a positively incredibly sweeeeeeet gesture Peter ( filmlover ) did, getting you that musical. Woweeee. )

My radio interview today with John Losh, who lives near Kansas City, Missouri, went well. Losh invited me to be a guest on "Losh-Man's Classic Hollywood Show." His program airs from 2-3(CT) on Sunday afternoons. The classic rock n' roll venue in Sulphur Springs allows listeners to access the program at: http://t.co/oWCwvpMkwQ

We discussed The Turner Classic FIlm Festivals, the Star of the Month venues, Robert Osborne, Ben Mankiewicz, the endurance of TCM as a network, some of my favorite films and actors, and much more. I hope you'll enjoy it!

Losh also invited me to be a regular monthly guest. :D
