The moment right after I snapped Roger Corman's photo on the Red Carpet, he walked over to me and shook my hand!

I was happy to be incuded as one of the #TCMFF Social Producers this season. I hope you have enjoyed my coverage, and will continue to post comments throughout the coming year. We might even hear about next year's festival in a few months!

I really enjoy From Stage to Screen with Annette O'Toole and Michael McKean. Seeing "The King and I" last night on TCM just reminded me what a gorgeous event the premiere must have been wherever it was....

What I did.....
I arrived in California on Friday, April 22 in order to do research for a biography of Thelma Ritter. I was busy from the minute I landed....
Image
Flowers are blooming fuchsia everywhere.....

I arrived at LAX and picked up my car. (Avoid Dollar Rent-a-Car, please!

Image

Went directly to the Margaret Herrick Library to do research for a project I'm working on.

Image
I stopped to enjoy the wonderful exhibit honoring actor Gregory Peck in lobby. The black and white photographs chronicling aspects of his career were lovely, and I must have spent 10 minutes watching some of his home movies at the screen near the elevator. (Taking and sharing these photos is a "MUST NOT.")

Visited for a few minutes with Corliss, who greeted me at the entrance when I arrived, picked up my key, and secured my bag in the locker room. (Researchers are only allowed to bring in paper and pencil, and sometimes a laptop. No photos are allowed, but you can make copies of all your photos and articles if they have clearance.)

Image
Personable author Jeremy Arnold, a snappy dresser BTW, with one of his favorite fans in the lobby of the Hollywood Roosevelt during Arnold's book signing event- 52 Must- See Movies and Why They Matter, a TCM Running Press publication.
(Book signing in the lobby are a "MUST" for me. :D )

I steeped myself in the Core Collection and researched the database on one of the computers, and then I saw Jeremy Arnold quietly doing research for his next project. After about 4 and a half hours of work, I went to eat at my favorite place near the library, La Provence on La Peer.

Had the Mexican Cobb salad and the stunningly fresh veggie-tomato soup with slivers of crusty French bread.

A lady invited me to sit with her, and we began chatting while she waited for her takeout order.
I told her about my research project, and she explained that she was a producer working with some of her writers for a project in development. After she left, I finished my dinner, and bought some divine meringues and an apple tart for "later."

After dinner, I headed to Trader Joe's to purchase some snacks and some coffee, then on to a friend's swankienda where I will be staying. After unpacking, we discussed events at the upcoming TCM Film Festival, and I reviewed some of the research I did at the library. Then I made some phone calls, engaged in social media for a bit, and then took a nice, warm shower, and snuggled into my jams for some rest to recharge while reading before slumbering away in LA.....

Up Next in a few days...Saturday, April 23.

Some Very Sad News to Report...

Post by Sue Sue Applegate »

Image

I have some very sad news to report. Our friends, Theresa Madere Barrera (Butterscotch) and her husband Joe, had been expecting a blessed event this June. Unfortunately, Baby James Barrera did not survive the delivery process, and passed away last Thursday. A funeral will be held at their church in Austin, Texas. If you are friends with Theresa on Facebook, you can express condolences on her personal page. Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this time of grief.

Hi,

Rotten news.....
Theresa has been a friend to me for several years on the TCM and Oasis boards and being one of my pals at the Film Festivals over the years.
Then, meeting her new husband, Joe, 2 years ago and thrilled about the baby this past April was a special joy to all of us there....

I am very sad and shocked for them both - words are really not always the best way to convey one's feelings.
This should never have happened to two very sweet young people.

I am so sorry; and will be thinking of you both this Saturday.

Love,
Larry

I am so sorry to read this news, even though I only know butterscotch from her delightful presence online. My heart goes out to Theresa and her husband. They will be in my prayers.

Currently enjoying Lou Gossett, Jr.'s Guest Programming visit with Ben.

On now, Blackboard Jungle, then Touch of Evil, Lifeboat, and then Night of the Hunter.

Here's Lou on the TCM Film Festival Red Carpet this year, a wonderful man who answered all journalist's questions and spoke with several camera crews.

Well, there's a great big, empty space in my heart. Tuesdays and Wednesdays on TCM just won't be the same without...Keith Carradine. If anyone feels the same way, maybe this article can help...

Not only has he been a fabulous host, he also is a wonderful musician. Wouldn't we enjoy seeing him introduce Roberrt Altman's NASHVILLE at the next TCM Film Festival in 2017?

He's purty smooth. And....he's purty! :-)

I thoroughly enjoyed all the iconic and rarely screened Westerns!
