There are some interesting names in there. Edmund O'Brien and John Hodiak caught my attention. Not exactly names you think of for SUTS. Thelma Ritter should make many here happy.

I suspect Borgnine will be one other I'll watch as he had quite a variety of genres.

Herbert Marshall!! John Hodiak!! THELMA jiminy christmas RITTER!!! Alexis Smith!!! Lee Tracy! And GLADYS freakin' GEORGE!!!!

Yippee, zippee. They dun good. They dun real good. Thanks, TCM!*

And no Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. That's a first, I think. There will be tears, slaps, and the gnashing of teeth in heaven (or someplace) over those omissions.

*And thanks to a certain Ms. Alexa Foreman, who I think was pulling for Gladys George's day in the summer sun along with me and others.

Hi,

Well Moira, as long as they're not slapping us, we can rest easy!!

After watching "The Gold Rush" some weeks ago on TCM and marvelling at Charlie Chaplin, I will probably view his films.
And, I always enjoyed Herbert Marshall and Gladys George; both never disappoint.
Love Claudette Colbert in anything and have only seen Arlene Dahl in a couple of movies, so would like to see their day.

I hope that they are able to get some of Colbert's less well known '30s films such as The Gilded Lily, Private Worlds, Tovarich, Bluebeard's Eighth Wife and Zaza are shown on her day.

I bet that Arlene Dahl Day must mean that Scene of the Crime, She Played With Fire and Wicked as They Come will be shown. I've only seen a few of her movies, but like her vague air and that strangely intense beauty of hers is hard to fathom as real.

My one regret:
No Gilbert Roland day....ah, well.

Erik--I think I will run out of room on my DVR pretty quickly.

Gee, I hope that they have a chance to show The Dolly Sisters on Betty Grable day. That's such ludicrous fun.

Very happy to see Gay Purree on Judy Garland's day. I love the voice work of Garland, Robert Goulet and Red Buttons in this film (I haven't seen it in what has to be almost forty years and only once before that when it came out).

But most of all, I love the artwork of the animation in this film!

Gladys George and Thelma are both high on my list! I love George in The Roaring Twenties.

I'm with you, Larry, sighing for more Gilbert Roland. Especially after seeing him shirtless in those home movies the Academy showed at the Film Festival!

Maybe next year.

Thanks Lzcutter for sharing about Gay Purree ... I haven't seen this movie in 30 years! ... I'm very excited about that; and it's one of my favorite Judy Garland's movies.

Summer Under the Stars August Schedule on TCM

Post by moira finnie »

As August comes along, TCM will be devoting 24 hours to a different actor each day of the month. This year promises to be interesting, with some obscure movies tossed into the mix and a few of our dear character actors in the mix, along with actors overdue for their day in the sun, as previously discussed above. To see the entire schedule for the month please click here:

As always, TCM also created an impressive interactive site devoted to this event:

Definitely an intriguing lineup, CineMaven.

But I'm still gonna have to rely on my trusty old VCR.
