2016 TCM Classic Film Festival

Post by pvitari »

I'm going.;) Anyone else? I assume Teresa and Sue Sue are on the attendance list. ;) I am anxiously awaiting announcements of the films and guests scheduled for 2016. The theme this year is "moving pictures":

"The magic of movies isn’t just motion, it’s emotion. As we watch cinematic stories play out, they feel like our own. In 2016, the TCM Classic Film Festival explores MOVING PICTURES—the ones that bring us to tears, rouse us to action, inspire us, even project us to a higher plane. In the heart of historic Hollywood we’ll gather to share the big-time emotions of big screen stories, from coming-of-age pictures to terminal tearjerkers, from powerful sports dramas we feel in our bones to religious epics that elevate our spirits. These are the films that that set our love of cinema in motion."

I guess I better stock up on Kleenex. :)

Do you SSO people have secret parties that you need decoder rings for or something? I know you're there but except for running into Teresa and Sue Sue a few times, I have no idea what you all are up to! ;)

I am REALLY looking forward to seeing some great films on the big screen. I just saw the restored World of Apu trilogy in the theater a couple of weeks ago and I was completely blown away by that; one of the greatest endings ever IMHO. I need more like that on the big screen so I hope TCM's "moving pictures" theme really delivers. The restored 50th anniversary edition of My Fair Lady is screening one day only here on October 20, in the 70mm theater at the Cinebistro at Town Brookhaven -- I have my tickets for that one too. I suspect the My Fair Lady event will be full but I almost had the theater to myself for Apu -- there were 2 other people for the first movie, 3 for the second movie, and 4 for the final one. However, they ran those three films over and over again for a whole week so I hope lots of people did see them overall. But watching a film with an appreciative TCM audience -- that's a special kind of experience. ;)

Yes, Paula, that is a special kind of experience. Glad you had a chance to experience the World of Apu Trilogy. Typically ,we usually gather to attend the "Meet The TCM Panel" on Thursdays initially. After that, we scatter to our selected choices, and wind up having a final farewell at the Final Club TCM Party on Sunday.
