Dargo,

To quote a Woody Allen line to his young niece, "Don't listen to anything your teachers tells you." That was me ... and then the schoolteachers said, 'Don't listen to anything your parents tell you." That was all difficult to overcome but I had it, and then I ran across a New Yorker cartoon. Two men on an elevator, one says "Gosh, as an analyst, you must be exhausted after listening to people all day." Analyst: "Who listens?"

It was ok, but Eddie gave away a plot point about Cleo in the intro saying her role was small but PIVOTAL.

SPOILERS:

Since she was supposed to have died, I took that to mean she didn't REALLY die, which proved correct! (since her role was NOT pivotal if she was just in that brief party scene in the beginning!) So NO SURPRISE there! :( And who was that Packy person she was supposed to be married to? I was confused to who that was. It wasn't a bad b movie. A good cast. Wish it had been fleshed out a bit more in the plot.

And I was ticked to find out NO MORE NOIR ALLEY UNTIL MAY!!!!!!!!! WTF?????????

Not only Oscar month but April too, due to some salute to WARNER BROS.?????? (per Eddie) They need to preempt Eddie for some Warner salute? It's a 24 hr 7 day week salute???????????? What a wasted month! Half of what they show is WB anyway. What a lazy programming decision. SNOOZE.

Really ticked off! :(

Yeah, I agree. Is it going to kill them to maintain regular features in cases like this. Does that mean that Sunday silents are out too? Probably. A crock of hooey!

We asked the mods to do that but it didn't happen. If we just use this-one the other one will wilt all on its own.

Well, Eddie returned with a good one. We can always count on Barbara Stanwyck for a great performance.

I'd forgotten what exactly happens in The File on Thelma Jordan, it had been a while since I'd seen it. I did recall Barbara was "bad", or at least, not 100% "good". But of course, that's what makes her interesting.
That's something I really like about noir, "grey" characters who are neither virtuous nor evil.

SPOILERS I did think, however, that Thelma could easily have taken that emerald necklace out of the safe any time without her aunt's knowledge. How come she waited for a blustery night with the shutters banging ,waking the old lady up? She (Thelma) could have stolen that necklace any time on a calm night, or even, come to think of it, one of those days when the aunt is sitting outside drinking tea or whatever. She must have known the combination to the safe and everything. Easy peasy. But then, we wouldn't have had any murder, therefore, no dramatic story.

Poor old Wendell Corey. He had kind of a sad sack face, the kind of face that never gets the girl. (except for his wife of course...I like the ambiguity at the end, maybe she takes him back, maybe she doesn't. We don't know.)

One thing more...Although it was a very small role, I did notice Wendell's secretary, "Dollie". But I had no idea it was the same actress who'd played Farley Granger's obnoxious and ill-fated wife in Strangers on a Train. She looked completely different ! Thanks to Eddie for that tidbit of info.
