i swear I'll shut up about DEATH ON THE NILE but I have three final musings and an extremely esoteric observation to make, but SUE ME, I'm sharing them:

1. anyone else wonder if they threw LOUISE BORGET''S BODY to THE CROCODILES?

2. What if DR LUDWIG BESSNER was onto something and ARMADILLO URINE INJECTIONS were actually a miracle cure-all for all sorts of issues (MARA SELIGMAN was gonna go "barking mad" no matter what.) could've changed history, maybe even avoided the second war...

3. is anyone else sorry that we didn't get ISHTAR: starring BETTE DAVIS and MAGGIE SMITH as MRS VAN SCHUYLER AND BOWERS wandering the GHOBI DESERT and getting into all sorts of wacky mishaps?

the observation:
while people with BLUE EYES only make up about 10% of the population, it is wild how 90% of the main cast of DEATH ON THE NILE has them: DAVIS, SMITH, LANSBURY, DAVID NIVEN, JON FINCH, SIMON MacCORKINDALE, JACK WARDEN and (most notably) MIA FARROW AND PETER USTINOV all have PIERCINGLY BLUE EYES- which JACK CARDIFF shows off wonderfully with his photography.

The early 70s was not a good period for movies. As the 70s progressed it got better.

See, i feel the exact opposite- as someone who has come late to viewing films of the 70s, the early 70s and especially 1971 have a lot of interesting and fascinating films for me- many of which are admitedly not mainstream and/or horror, but they count nonetheless: THE WICKER MAN, STRAW DOGS, THE ABOMINABLE DR PHIBES, CHINATOWN, LAST PICTURE SHOW, HAROLD AND MAUDE, WHAT'S UP DOC?, THE BOY FRIEND, THE DEVILS, VANISHING POINT- it's once we hit 1975 that my interest in the decade IMMEDIATELY WANES (JAWS and some outliers notwithstanding)
[/quote]

Yes, there were some good ones, but a lot of bad ones. I'm not a big fan of the 80s either. Especially the early 80s.

I hadn't noticed that but you are correct! It probably would've been more entertaining than the Ishtar we wound up with!!!

I clipped a bit, but it is a wonderful list. You forgot: THE TAKING OF PELHAM 123 (1974) which belongs in the top 10 for the time.
Interestingly, you don't mention THE GODFATHER.

I myself am a big fan of early '70s Schlock like DEATHDREAM or GRAVE OF THE VAMPIRE or FLESHPOT ON 42nd STREET...

Yeah, PELHAM 123 is really good, even if it is from the guy who later directed JAWS: THE REVENGE.

You might like I DRINK YOUR BLOOD (1971?) if you have not seen it, it's on all sorts of streaming services, even youtube even though it is GRAPHIC AS HELL.

I also have watched THE RETURN OF COUNT YORGA a lot. I'm not saying it's good, just saying I've seen it A LOT. (IT'S PRESENTLY ON TUBI ALONG WITH I DRINK YOUR BLOOD)

ALSO ALSO

Yes, THE BEGUILED is great...

there is SOMETHING INTRIGUING about PRETTY MAIDS ALL IN A ROW even if it is a confounding movie on multiple levels.

i recently rewatched PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK and while I don't have a clue what it's really all about, I don't dislike it.

What movie character was named Alma? I seem to remember one.
Don't forget Thelma Ritter in Pillow Talk! "You're my inspiration.... Alma!"
