Poor Paul. I remember sometime in the 70s (I think) Paul took out an ad in one of the trade papers or the LA Times (cant remember now) when it was going to run on local tv, apologizing for the film, but instead thousands of people tuned in to watch it who may have ignored it otherwise.

I hadn't read this post before posting mine!CinemaInternational wrote: ↑May 20th, 2024, 2:14 pmOh, yes, the one that he took a big ad out in one of the trade papers to apologize for after it aired on TV after he became a big star. It's a more interesting film than Warners big Helen of Troy film around the same time.

They should have had SAMSON AND DELILAH on this Mediterrean ticket. Hedy Lamarr's best (i.e. most animated) performance of her entire wooden career.

But I wouldn't say signifying nothing. The sweetie and I watched it on Watch TCM with an introduction by Martin Scorsese.
We enjoyed it, especially the ending.
We did think that the movie poster was false advertising.
I wonder how many people in 1955 went to the movie expecting to see Joan Collins in a bikini.

Robert Stack is giving a wonderfully awful performance in HOUSE OF BAMBOO.

Ha!!! What did Marty have to say?
The only way I could tell it was a Hawks film is that Dewey Martin's in the cast, lol.

Scorsese was impressed with the epic touches, but he was dismissive of Joan Collins's performance (said something like it was trite 1950's melodrama).
