Hi Joe,

"The Lizard of Roz" - that's what Freddie Brisson was nicknamed in Hollywood. Not a very well liked man about town, even in New York City.
His father, Carl Brisson, was a very famous musician & opera star and was much nicer and better liked.
I think Freddie was jealous of him and Roz and that's what made him bitter....

Carmen Miranda was in fact addicted to prescrption drugs, however, she did not use cocaine. Nor did she secretly "hide" cocaine in her platform heels as reported by Kenneth Anger's trashy book "Hollywood Babylon."

(from IMDb) Brenda Marshall wanted to be a film actress, all right; it's just that she didn't want to be Brenda Marshall. Throughout her years in Hollywood, she insisted that her friends and co-workers address her not by her studio-fabricated cognomen, but by her given name of Ardis Anderson Gaines. She made about 20 films, her last in 1950.
While Marshall & Holden remained married for 30 years, most of it was spent separated from each other while involved in various other romances.
I believe that William Holden was a successful and popular actor, whose voice really didn't matter.
As far as Chevalier and Newman go, perhaps around the eyes.

Love the Joan Blondell pic too, though I've seen it many times before, and the Deborah Kerr/Jean Simmons one is cute too.

Twenty-five years or so ago, I used to eat my lunch in a little public plaza on West 58th Street off Fifth Ave., and every lunchtime during the warmer months Douglas Fairbanks would walk by. I don't think I can find the words to relate to you how utterly handsome he was. He almost always wore some kind of blazer, with an open-necked shirt and a silk scarf tied around his neck. He was so tall, so erect and strong looking, so blue-eyed, and so very beautiful. He was probably in his late 70s at the time. As you can imagine, he got a lot of attention (well, the NYC version of attention to celebrities, which is that we glance at them), especially from the ladies of a certain age. Small wonder Crawford fell for him, stories about her social climbing notwithstanding.

I have a book called The Fairbanks Album, it's full of pictures of father and son. It gave me a greater appreciation of Doug Jnr.

A few things:

1) Thanks for the wonderful picture of Tony Martin & Cyd Charrisse. They both look good and Anne will be happy to know - no cosmetic surgery!!!

2) Louis Jourdan is a good looking movie star who never had a breath of scandal about him and he is underrated as he could play most anything - romance, musical, cad, hero & villain... Give this man an Honourary Oscar (I'll have to add him to my list).... It grows, Joe!!

3) Wow, Mae West never looked so good - clothes on or off!!! And, we have to give her credit - she didn't have the sculptor shave off her little round tummy... What you see is what you get.....

4) Thanks for the Agnes Moorehead and Sean photo. It is good to see them in 'happier times'...

5) Only Joan Crawford could wear a hat like that!!! It looks like a Russian kokoshnik (a Russian headdress).
She should have played a Russian Czarina - she had a partial wardrobe!!

Hey, you know, that photo of Joanie C. & Harlan Sanders is more than a little ironic, as Joan's restaurant success in Mildred Pierce was largely due to her character's "secret" fried chicken recipe!
