I was thinking of the fact that both ladies played Elizabeth I, Eldridge in Mary Queens of Scots (1936) and Simmons in Young Bess (1953). I didn't even think to look to see if they had other roles in common. My bad.

There have been quite a few visits to this thread, but no one has ventured an answer.

Here's a hint:

The common factor between Hepburn and Booth has to do with two different types of entertainment in which both were successful; once together, and twice separately.

Reading this back, I fear it may not make much sense to those who aren't familiar with the careers of both Hepburn and Booth, but a simple online lookup will probably reveal it.

You are right Chris, and you even threw in Lancaster as a bonus common factor. Booth was such a very strong actor, but she just didn't have the glamor of Hepburn. Both of the stage roles were changed somewhat to accomodate Hepburn's style.

In particular, Arthur Laurents, who wrote i]Summertime, was outraged with the way Hepburn changed the part of Jane Hudson for Time of the Cuckoo. I read this in Laurents' autobiography. I don't think he ever forgave Hepburn for "spoiling" his play, and he is very catty about her (and Tracy) throughout his book. However, he had sold her the rights, so he couldn't do anything about it. She certainly knew what was best for her, at least professionally.
