The Good Shepard
The Good Shepard
Has anyone seen this film about the CIA that was directed by Robert DeNiro, who also plays " Wild Bill " Donovan ( Sullivan in the film ), head honcho of the OSS, the predecessor of the CIA.
I've seen this one and wasn't too impressed. Perhaps I wasn't the right audience, since I've had several classes on the history of the Cold War, and thus the film's departures from history really bugged me.
Basically, the movie tried to do too much and ended up not doing much well. Also, the film's implied idea that the FBI (in Hoover's time) was good and a defender of traditional American values while the CIA was bad really made me wonder if the filmmakers knew anything about the history of their own country.
