Most favorite TV show of all time?

"North of 60"

It's produced under contract to The Alberta Film Board in Canada, and is syndicated to CBC for broadcast; in the last ten years, it's evolved from a weekly/biweekly series of one hour episodes, to an ongoing series of episodic TV movies (usually annual in release), rather like PBS' Hillerman mysteries, or BBC's excellent "Prime Suspect" microserials.
"North of 60" (refering to the latitude that bisects Canada into "north" & "south") features such well-known Canadian First Nations actors as Tom Jackson, August Schellenburg, Tantoo Cardinal, Graham Green & Gordon Tootoosis, and focuses on the day-to-day struggles of the modern residents of a vast Indian Reserve in northeastern Alberta (most of whom are First Nationals of the Slavey, Cree & Yellowknife Nations), and the neverending culture clash between the locals & the RCMP, between Ottawa & their tribal government, between commercial self-sufficiency & provincial subsidy, between tradition & progress, and ultimately, between Natives & Euro-Canadians.
Hard to find, granted, but definitely worth it!

I forgot to mention my favorite relatively recent program is the British Inspector Morse series, which I've posted about in the Favorite Cop Shows section. :)

I just wanted to say that I'm crushed that CW chose to cancel Veronica Mars. It was the only current show that I was really committed to watching.

benwhowell, your list of TV favorites is very close to what I would list, and I'm especially gratified to see that you've mentioned "Dobie Gillis." I loved that show, which was sometimes pretty ordinary, but sometimes quite manic and subversive, in the "Green Acres" vein. Dwayne Hickman recently celebrated his 73rd birthday. Can you belive it? Have you read Max Shulman's "Dobie Gillis" books, on which the series was based?

I will admit I also have a fondness for "The Ghost Whisperer," which gets pretty weepy, but which also can be quite well done. I've noticed that certain episodes are much better than others, apparently depending on the director, since the plots and dialog are generally very similar each time. Is there another program on network TV that lists so very many producers? How many producers does one program need, I wonder? In any event, I quite like Ms. J. Love Hewitt, who is one of the few young actresses around these days who has retained a few shreds of dignity and hasn't as yet gone the slut/jail/rehab/quickie marriage-divorce route. But I do dislike the billowy, baby-doll clothes she wears on the show. Trying for a distinctive "look" I suppose. I don't think they're very flattering to her. Sweetie, put on a bra. Ten years from now you'll be glad you did.

Dear Jennifer,

Please ignore Judith's advice.

Oh, I wish I could let this comment go, but I just can't, Jon. I'm assuming you've never subjected your body to constant abuse in the name of allure, as most of us women on Planet Earth have done. There is no longer any possibility of my wearing those torture devices some call high-heeled shoes; I've deformed my poor feet after all these years, and can only wear sneakers and flats.

IMO, JLH is a lovely girl, and there's no need for her to ruin her figure (which is what's going to happen). There are years of reconstructive surgery in her future if she keeps on this way. I really thought she was smarter than that.
