Re: The FINALS - Screwball Comedy
I just returned from Session 2 of the film class I'm now taking on (drum roll, please) Screwball Comedy.
The movie we watched tonight was (rimshot) My Man Godfrey.
Easy choice for me -- Bringing Up Baby.

I know Godfrey is funny ... But, Bringing Up Baby - This Howard Hanks Classic starring Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant always tickles my funny bone ... ironically that was story of this movie ... That Dr. Huxley played by Cary Grant got excited over finding a brontosaurus bone. So Baby wins hands down. I saw this movie three times in my life ... and I'm a big fan of both of these stars.

I like them both. I guess though if we are hitched to the "screwball" then "Baby" is screwier. (Didn't Bugs Bunny use that word?)

I don't know about Bugsy, but I did... You're right, Baby is screwier, but Godfrey is my love....
Re: The FINALS - Screwball Comedy
I'll go with GODFREY. For me, BABY is only partly successful, funny in fits and starts,
periodically running out of gas and simply not going anywhere. I also think GODFREY
is easily as "screwy" as BABY. I think it's the better movie, too.

Someone here said that was a really racy pre-code statement...I guess, even at my ripe old age, I'm still dumb about some things....I don't get it. I just thought the maid (marvelous as the only sane one in the whole household) and Lombard were actually talking about sewing buttons back on his coat. If I'm embarrassing anyone...send me a pm and explain....or not....Oh, Nan, I know exactly how you feel. I love Godfrey, too.....sniff..... I wish he'd let me sew his buttons on sometimes when they come off...... Waaaah!

As far as the buttons comment goes I'm not sure that it necessarily implies anything sexual as much as it suggests a much deeper "taking care of him" situation. They both love him. At least that is the way I read it.

Bringing up Baby was top of my list before we began and it's still there for me.
I'll be with you in a minute Mr Peabody.
Plus it has the best walk in movies and the best missed trick with olives. Cary Grant falls on his behind so well.
