TV NOIR at the ROXIE!! July 18-20

Lynn - THE OUTSIDER is a terrific film! I was fortunate enough to run a collector's print of it at the Roxie back in the late 90s. With a little luck it just might make a return visit in the near future!

Wasn't THE OUTSIDER also a brief series? I was actually a fan of KOLCHAK, THE NIGHT STALKER. It wasn't comparable to serious suspense drama. But it was fun in a ridiculous way. I love McGavin's energy level. The man was quite talented. It's nice that he wound up in A CHRISTMAS STORY. Generations that have never heard of THE OUTSIDER will remember that wonderful holiday film.

Yeah, THE OUTSIDER was a short-lived series (1967-68) on NBC. The film we ran at the Roxie twelve or thirteen years ago was the two-hour pilot which originally aired in the fall of 1967. Part of what made the pilot so excellent (apart from the stellar cast) was Michael Ritchie's snappy direction. The show was the creation of Roy Huggins, the remarkable genius behind such other TV classics as MAVERICK, 77 SUNSET STRIP, THE FUGITIVE, THE ROCKFORD FILES and many others. It's been more years than I care to count since I've viewed individual episodes of THE OUTSIDER, but my gut tells me that they probably hold up beautifully well!

I will keep my fingers crossed! That would be terrific. A lot of it was shot in downtown Los Angeles at the time Bunker Hill was being demolished and other historic buildings were under siege.

And while many of those historic buildings are now gone, they live in many noirs and in films like The Outsider.

Stuff like that makes my little historic heart squee.

Marco, who has heard the squee, would probably describe it as the happy sound I make when ever I see historic Los Angeles on film. It's high pitched and MrCutter (who has heard it as well) describes it as a 'sound only truly appreciated by dogs and dolphins'.

I've seen screen caps of The Outsider locations of downtown Los Angeles and I really want to see this film on the big screen.

I love my City of Angels.
