I'm watching the documentary on Epic Films on TCM right now and have a question for you guys and gals.
What's the one EPIC film you would love to see on TCM. (Yes, I know, it's best to see these types of films on the big screen but barring that....)
I long for the day when TCM is able to acquire El Cid with Chuck Heston (in perhaps his best role as the Cid) and Sophia Loren.

That would be my number one choice as well. Two others that I'd like to see on TCM would be Red Beard (1966), (which has shown before, but not often--perhaps a double bill with Ran (1985)? Talk about epic proportions!) and The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988).

I don't keep up with what's been shown and what hasn't. But my favorite epic is BEN-HUR. I appreciate the scope of the story, the trials of the characters, the faith of the followers. Way better than QUO VADIS, SPARTACUS or THE ROBE, this is the "Rome vs. Rebels" drama to beat.
I don't care for EL CID. Long and long winded, I can see why Heston wished William Wyler had directed it. Nothing against Anthony Mann. But it's a good line!

El Cid is never off our screens, it's shown at least once every year, yet the choice of films shown on our freeview channels isn't great, how funy that one of our staples is one film TCM hasn't shown yet.
