Great picture of Thomas Mitchell, Joe! Thanks for remembering his birth. What a great character actor. Loved him particularly in Adventure (1945), as Clark Gable's shipmate who lost his soul and dies out on deck looking at the stars.
Gee, he died in about 90% of his movies, didn't he?

I agree wholeheartedly, Moira. Thomas Mitchell was one of the best, and what an impressive filmography! Yes, he did seem to have a pretty high onscreen mortality rate.
I particularly enjoy his heart-rending performance as the father of "The Sullivans."
