You guys are giving me some new ones to check out...The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh and The Prince of Donegal are two more I've never seen or heard of!

What about animals stories? I am STILL the biggest sucker for those.

Born Free (and Living Free) and The Black Stallion are among my favorites.

Well, how about another tried & true from Uncle Walt: Nikki - Wild Dog of the North . . seldom have the Canadian Rockies, and an Alaskan Malamute, looked as thrilling & heroic as they really are . . but this movie gets it done!
Easily one of the Ol' Sled Dog's most cherished faves!

Ha! Thanks, Klondike I will add that one to my list. Just DON'T tell me it ends like Old Yeller or I'll never forgive you! :D

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), Pinocchio (1940), Tarzan, the Ape Man (1932) and Tarzan and His Mate (1934).

King Kong, Duck Soup and some of the early Universal horror series would be on the list, but I don't think they were based on children's stories.

Ohhhhhhh hahhhahaaaa!! Thank you, knitty! I never watched "Friends" but Lisa Kudrow always made me laugh! I wish I had been spared the real ending myself.

Old Yeller is a movie I've never seen and I suspect I never will as I'm sure the ending would be too much for me to take.

A few more logs for the fire...

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971)
If you want a view of Paradise, simply look around and view it.

Paddle to the Sea (1966)
There's nothing like pouring lead in your house...

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (1979)
I prefer the cartoon version. Aslan is even bigger!

Porco Rosso (1992)
Often termed, “the anime Casablanca”, I actually prefer Miyazaki’s charming story of a man’s lost humanity to Curtiz’ overrated bluster.

While I've seen parts of Chocolate Factory and the Disney verson of Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe, I've never seen any of these, Arkadin. Thank you for posting those YouTube links! I still enjoy some animated films. Gay Purree and The Aristocats, come to mind and don't get me started on the made for television cartoon movies like Charlotte's Web. :D

Has anyone seen that fairly recent movie (the 1990s maybe?) about a flock of wild geese that a child raises and sets free? I think it was made by Carrol Ballard, who did The Black Stallion. I saw it once a few years ago and loved it, though I can't remember the title.

Miss Goddess,

That film is called Fly Away Home, it's from 1996, it stars Jeff Daniels, Anna Pacquin, and Dana Delany, and it's absolutely lovely. I'm too old for it to be a "childhood favorite," but you might call it an "inner child favorite." ;) It was indeed directed by Carroll Ballard and it's based on a true story.

Miss Goddess:

Thank you for that phrase - "inner child favorite". That is perfect for the way I feel about Monsters, Inc. .
