When I read the name Sam Fuller, I picture Gene Evans, perhaps since Park Row was my first foray into the world of Fuller. I really liked that one, and tried Pickup on South Street....I was hooked. I can't watch all his war movies, they are too intense for me (Wendy, do I ever hear what you're saying!) but I am fascinated with his view.

Sgt. Zack! Sgt. Rock! (Is there a pattern there somewhere?) Rob McLaughlin!
(Not quite the same resonance.) NYMPHOS! (Not Gene Evans, but, RedRiver, I can
-- almost, but not quite -- imagine the reaction at the Music Box.)

Hey! This Paranoia-Fantasy thing is BOFFO! And we haven't even touched on
you-know-who (Jack Director aka Jacques Tourneur) or the-man-watching-over-it-all
(Val Lewton).

Until now.

No cards or letters, please. I know Lewton didn't produce that one.

WOW!!!!

I LOVE THOSE FOOTPRINTS!

Another movie goes on the "to watch" list - which now extends beyond the end of the universe.

Hi Dewey, thanxxx for posting that clip. You know in actuality what scene I was thinking about? Where Ty comes back to see Helen near the end of the movie and she turns on him. She uses psychology against him as I think Viveca does. But the intro of Ty & Helen to each other is fine too. In a few short moments, they "understand" each other.

REDRIVER writes: Cinemaven, please try and control the wrath of grapes!

HA!! Well Red, I can't make any promises. I do idolize those lethal ladies so.

JACKFAVELL writes: MAven, GREAT connection to Nightmare Alley! I never would have put those together! I'm glad to see you jumping in.

Hey there Miss Imbrie. Well, I'm jumpin' in. Gosh, I hope there's water in the pool over here.

Kate Bush actually uses samples from Night of the Demon in the the title track of her Hounds of Love album, which was a shock (and pleasant suprise to me) when I first heard it.

A bit more Paranoia-Fantasy, which pushes the envelope:

WARNING! THERE IS A SLIGHT AMOUNT OF NUDITY IN THESE CLIPS. IF MODERATORS OR ANYONE ELSE IS OFFENDED, PLEASE REMOVE, OR ASK ME TO DO SO:

Nudity is offensive only if it is gratuitous (is it ever?) or done in poor taste
(is it ever?). On the other hand, Mr. Ark, what were those shiny, sharp
pointy objects? Hmmm.... You know I'll have nightmares for a week now.

But speaking of Paranoia-Fantasy in a more contemporary Noir vein,
with the bonus of a great song styling...and no shiny, sharp
pointy objects in this clip (but one naughty word)...we proudly present:

Or when in involves Harvey Keitel. Talk about nightmares!

Take one part Hitchcock and any number of parts Salvador Dali and
you pretty much have a template (of sorts) for this delirious brand of
para-noir fantasy...SPELLBOUND. (The less it makes sense,
the better...)

But what about when dreams seem more vivid than reality?

When can a dream be called reality? When is reality a dream? When it's being
photographed by Stanley Cortez, that's when.

"Don't make me start an Abel Ferrara thread!" says Mr. Arkadin.

I say, "Don't make me write a review on that favorite seminal classic of mine "MS. 45."
