'Doc' Daneeka: There's a CATCH.
Yossarian: A catch?
'Doc' Daneeka: Sure. Catch-22. Anyone who wants to get out of combat isn't really crazy, so I can't ground him.
Yossarian: Ok, let me see if I've got this straight. In order to be grounded, I've got to be crazy. And I must be crazy to keep flying. But if I ask to be grounded, that means I'm not crazy anymore, and I have to keep flying.
'Doc' Daneeka: You got it, that's Catch-22.
Yossarian: Whoo... That's some catch, that Catch-22.
'Doc' Daneeka: It's the best there is.

Ooooh, that Catch 22 is some Catch-22!!

For me, with these three lines it's not WHAT they say, but the WAY they say it. And I've gotta tell ya, I literally WAIT to hear them say:

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Image

“But ya are, Blanche! Ya ARE in that chair!”

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Image

“You shut up. I’ll tell her what’s good for her to know and that’s all. As for the rest of it, I’m handling it. And that means I’m handling it.”

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Image

“This is my room and I did not invite you in.”

Insane, cool and frigid. Ahhhhhhh! The Movies!

This is a mouthful and one of the best and memorable lines in that movie.

I didn't know what time it was. I didn't have a watch. They don't make that kind of time in watches, anyway.

that movie is one feature length example of unforgettable line after line. :D chandler really opened my eyes to what you could do with words and somehow this is the movie version of his work that captures his way with dialogue best.

I agree! I could have picked almost any line from the film and it would have been a "best' line. :D

I absolutely agree. The man twisted a phrase into something almost musical. MURDER, MY SWEET is my favorite as well. I'll always wonder how much he contributed to DOUBLE INDEMNITY, the best spoken movie I've ever seen. What was Chandler? What was Wilder? Even James M. Cain. We'll probably never know!
