I was watching a documentary on Preston Sturges, I think it was on the Sullivan's Travels DVD, and they spent some time talking about this film with Sturges wrote.

They suggest it as a precursor to Citizen Kane, given it's depiction of the life of a magnate, and the fact that it is told in non-linear flashback.

Add to that Jean Arthur, and it sounds like a must see.

Anyone care to comment?

This is the moving starring Edward Arnold, right? I have always wanted to see it and hope TCM airs it one day. I didn't remember that Sturges wrote it, I'm sure it's terrific.

Ooh, I just realized I had this confused with 1933's The Power and the Glory, also written by Sturges.
