Don't know if this works for your game but....

What do Charley Chase, Cary Grant and Charles Laughton have in common?

I have to go and won't be back on until Monday the 21st to verify the answer. Have fun.

Sorry, Chris, I've been wresting a bad head cold, and I haven't really done anything but the most cursory research.

Can you throw a little hint?

Sorry you've been sick. I just got over a sinus problem that lasted about two weeks. It was not fun.

As far as a hint, it was someone they worked with.

Is it that they all worked with Leo McCarey?

Christy:

You are right. I was struck by the range of the people Leo directed. For that matter even guys like George Stevens and George Marshall as well. They worked with comedians in the Hal Roach shorts and then all go on to do such classic movies.

Your turn.

Were they both on Richard Nixon's "Enemies List?"

No, jdb1. What they have in common is how friendly they supposedly were with someone famous.

I have no knowledge about their being on Nixon's enemies list, but that also could be true and another point they have in common. But, I don't think so.

Bernstein was reputedly on Nixon's list, and since Winters was such an enthusiastic supporter of liberal causes, it wouldn't surprise me if she was on it as well.

However -- let's see -- is it that they both had affairs with Farley Granger?

According to Granger's autobiography, it would seem that they did.

And it also seems likely that they both were on Nixon's "enemies" list.

Thanks for playing, Judith. I really enjoy your "In Common" thread.

You're up!

Thanks, Christy -- I do enjoy ferreting out interesting facts about Hollywood people.

Here's one:

What do Edward G. Robinson and Johnny Weissmuller have in common?

That's a good one. I'm off to work, but I'll be thinking about it!

Here's a hint for you all:

Robinson was never reticent about telling this fact about himself, but Weissmuller was - Weismuller felt that if he admitted this fact, he would not have been able to become a world-renowned swimming champ.

Another hint:

The common element goes back to the very earliest days of the respective stars' life.
