Well, not a really good way, but when stuck with a disc (CD or DVD) that would not play at all, I've used monitor cleaning pads, such as Read Right Kleen and Dry. First go over the disc with the wet pad, gently, then with the dry pad. I've only had to do this a couple of times, and both times it's worked, but I can't guarantee it. Use at your own risk.

In general, I use alcohol (ethanol) of the kind you find in pharmacy over here. Always clean from the center towards the edge. Not in a circular motion. Other option: deionized water of the kind used for batteries or steam iron.

I know what NOT to do, Moira. If you've received my ink-jet printable disks, don't get the surface 'ink' wet!

Second, I stopped using DVDs as nacho-chips. And no longer do I use them to spread peanut butter, either. Not even the creamy kind.

Finally, when Wifey catches me drying them with her undies, I quickly put them on, over my head, and commence chicken-walking. She screams PERVERT! and usually throws something, but I'm sure that's far less vengeful than her discovering I'd use her soft undies as drying rags. Whew... I tell ya, I've learned a FEW lessons in these years of marriage.

Thanks for the suggestions, (both serious and facetious). I tried warm soap and water and drying with a soft cloth. It seemed to work fine.
