CASTFLICK

Post by Sue Sue Applegate »

Well, not much has been happening on the Games and Trivia threads here lately.
Know the cast members? Then name the flick!

I'm feeling that this group surely must have been in a lot of movies together (or maybe it only seems that way), but are you thinking of Rebecca?

I think this could be fun. Here's another cast. It was a remake of a foreign movie starring an American actress and a great international actor.

Not that great movie, but a very good choice! This film was one of the director's darker stories.

I'll take a stab...but only because he's my favorite director: A WOMAN'S FACE?

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)?

Dabbs Greer and Whit Bissell would make perfect, blank-faced pod people, wouldn't they?

Correct sentiment, wrong movie. Although Greer and Bissell were in both movies, Sam Peckinpah wasn't in the cast at issue. But speaking of directors....

Hmmm, I'm wracking my brain, trying to remember movies that these guys made that were directed by someone memorable. Could it be The Tarnished Angels (1958), directed by Herr Sirk? Does anyone else want to jump in here...please?

Not Herr Sierk's masterpiece, though they share Mr. Schallert.

The two earlier hints (as attenuated as they may be):

We're coasting now....: An allusion to a rock'n'roll group who recorded a song with a title similar to the CastFlick in question.

But speaking of directors....: There's a very direct tie between Moira's previous answer (INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS) and the CastFlick in question.

And now the third: Do you think the cast ate Oscar Meyer brand bologna?

(Ouch! That hurt.)

Is it Riot in Cellblock 11?

Directed, I think, by Don Siegel, as was Body Snatchers. This was producer Walter Wanger's contribution after he was released from prison for shooting his wife's lover.

Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner!

"coasting" = The Coasters with their fab Leiber & Stoller song, Riot in Cell Block #9
"very direct tie" between directors = As Judith points out, both were directed by Don Siegel
"Meyer brand" = of course, our movie's stars, the hunky Emile Meyer and the devil-may-care Neville Brand

Take it away, Judith.
