Jimmy Durante won my heart the first time I saw him in The Man Who Came to Dinner. He had a joie de vivre that seems to come right out of his pores and makes him a pleasure to watch in any film he appears.

Wow...some very interesting lists. And all so different, too.

It's really funny, because the actors/actresses who are on my list are sorta my 'center of the universe', when it comes to classic film. It's interesting that so many actors/actresses not only exist outside of my own chief interests, but are other people's very top picks!

This exercise - especially the reading of other people's posts, has made me want to go out and broaden my horizons when it comes to making an effort with other actors/actresses.

I mean, I think all of us know and enjoy more than 100 actors/actresses. Certainly in my case, I could have easily listed another 25 of each without even having to think much about it. But the fact that there are so many of other people's favorites outside of my 'usual suspects' makes we want to pay closer attention to certain stars who I have only a fleeting acquaintance with.

^ Wow! Fascinating list!

A bunch of stars with which I have only a fleeting acquaintance!

Such an encouragement to think about all the things out there I still have to experience! :)

I haven't been able to compile a list -- every time I get more than 4 or 5 names, I think of 4 or 5 others that I might like better. Really -- when you are a classic movie fan, the list could be endless, couldn't it? I think I wouldn't have quite as much trouble making a list of those I don't care for.

I'm sure Katharine Hepburn is my favorite female, with Audrey H. and Thelma Ritter as close seconds, but I can't make a definite decision on favorite male. I'd probably go with Cary Grant as overall "favorite," but then, as second, there's Bogart, and Tracy, and Robinson, and Stewart, and Cooper, and Brennan, and McCrea, and my pet, Sabu, and Trigger, and . . . . . . No, no, wait, let me restate that . . . . .

Lonette McKee

Post by Moraldo Rubini »

Ken, I was very pleased to see Lonette McKee made your list. When I first saw her in Cotton Club I thought a star was born. I couldn't wait to see all of her movies that were bound to follow. And then they didn't... Oh, she's still around and working. I saw her in ATL last year in the mother's role. But her career never took off the way I expected. She was incendiary in Cotton Club! She should have been a big star. McKee went on to Broadway in the reconstructed Show Boat, and she was nomianted for a Tony for that. She was also got to sing Gershwin's "How Long Has This Been Going On?" in 'Round Midnight. It's a shame that musicals were dormant during her career; she would have made a swell musical star.
