Carson on TCM (Summer 2013)

Post by MissGoddess »

Interesting! I always liked Johnny. And I actually remember seeing the Elizabeth Taylor and Bette Davis interviews recorded here. :D

I wish I had TCM. What I wouldn't give to see this phenomenal talent one more time.

Red, I know you don't like to watch stuff online, but there are many Carson interviews at YouTube. I kind of wish they would just release all the shows on DVD (instead of the dozen or so "Best Of" compilations), or put them on (in order) one of the retro networks.

I'd rather re-visit Carson than see any of the new talk shows on at night. :D

Given the Dick Cavett shows that were aired on TCM this isn't a complete surprise. The only problem I would have is that they would be too short a segment. If they are going to show multiple guest shots to make them longer that would be good.

It will be interesting to see how they are broadcast. Will TCM stay consistent with its M.O. to show only "uncut", in which case we should get the shows from opening monologue to closing?

Thanx for posting this Miss G. This is great news. I was a fan of Johnny's even when I wasn't grown-up enough to understand the jokes. This clip was good. I think Angie Dickinson got Johnny really tongue-tied! ( ) Cute.

I thought Liz was a blast. What fun it would have been to dish the dirt with her.

And Debbie Reynolds.

I thoroughly enjoyed the American Masters episode highlightin Johnny Carson, and I am so happy to hear about this. When I saw that PBS episode, I realized how much I missed that Johnny, Ed, and Doc! This is great news, Miss G. Thanks for posting it!

Somebody said, even if you didn't watch Johnny very often, just knowing he was there was comforting. I like that.

Peter Jones who directed the American Masters docu on Johnny Carson and has done some of the TCM Original Programming documentaries is the guy who came up with the idea (at least that's what I'm learning from news reports and the TCM press release). Seems Jones thought the TCM would be a good home for some of Johnny's interviews and he approached not only TCM but Carson Archives with the idea.

Both were excited about the possibilities. It looks like there will be ten one-hour shows beginning on the TCM schedule beginning next summer. I can also see them creating interstitials around a film that the star was on Carson promoting and is being shown on TCM.

I'm very excited to see these next summer. Last Christmas a good friend gave us a huge Carson compilation (I think it runs like 10 or 15 DVDs) so as you can guess, we are big Carson fans!

Looks like I need to come for a visit to the Cutter household! I adored The Johnny Carson show, and can't wait to see what showcase TCM provides for these interviews.
