TCM Remembers 2012

From what I hear, the editors at TCM were hard at work for awhile on their annual end of the year In Memoriam. As we all know, they had their work cut out for them as this year (summer particularly) we had a number of passings.

Here's the 2012 TCM Remembers (and it's running on the channel as well):

It was filmed at the historic Starlight Drive-In theater in Atlanta. The song is Wait by M83.

Lynn, I was mesmerized by this year's film!

POSSIBLE SPOILERS:
The new TCM REMEMBERS 2012 is one of the most all-encompassing montages ever created, and includes performers from all categories of the entertainment business. It is lovely, and the theme is "Scenes From a Drive-In." Ann Rutherford is featured in a beautifully dramatic clip, and Michael Clarke Duncan relishing a "flicker show," as well as a dramatic last goodbye from TCM Festival and Cruise guest Ernest Borgnine, while shooting stars fly across a deep, midnight blue sky. It is simply one of the loveliest and most thorough compilations ever aired to celebrate the lives of our favorite performers, and includes Whitney Houston, Ben Gazzara, Phyllis Diller, Andy Williams, and many others who spent their lives in front of and behind the camera.

Kudos to TCM staff, editors, writers, and crew for a stunning tribute.

I like the way once it got going how they integrated the drive-in screens with the clips. I wasn't sure it was going in that direction and I remembered the motel setting a few years back but it worked out fine.

I didn't catch whether they had a spoken line from one of the clips like they've had over the last few years but it didn't seem like it. I am never familiar with the songs they use but it will probably grow on me.

I like the drive-in screen, too. Celeste Holm seemed to have a little more screen time than most, and it seemed Ernest Borgnine had one of the longest moments. People just adored him on the cruise, and at the festival.

I loved all the shooting stars in the night sky, and how the colors were more vivid than in some of the other TCM Remembers spots. It was just so touching.

I'd have to say this is the most haunting TCM Remembers yet. Beautifully done and a wonderful tribute to those who have passed. God bless them all.

Seeing Ernest Borgnine at the end made me tear up.

So glad that TCM remembered the wonderful Susan Tyrrell who was splendid as an alcoholic in
John Huston's "Fat City". She should have won the Oscar she was nominated for.

I've always been a fan of Huston's "Fat City" ever since I saw it on the big screen. I marveled at the performance of Susan Tyrell as Oma, and thought she should have won the Oscar for best supporting actress. Eileen Heckart won for "Butterflies Are Free". Sadly, Miss Tyrell past away on Sunday at age 67, a day before TCM presented her movie chosen by Ellen Barkin. - 6/19/2012

I thought the same thing too movieman.

At first I actually hated this one. I didn't get it at all at the first sitting, I was busy looking for the people. I was mad because Andy Griffith's clip was so short, in fact they all seemed very short to me. I didn't understand the story they were telling with the drive in clips, it seemed very random. Now I've seen it again and I really love the idea of the drive in coming back to life, making the world turn, and how it all relates to the heavens. Those stars who've passed then making our world go round, lighting up our lives and bringing back what was once stilled and lonely, it's all connected, our earth and the heavens, by their work. it's pretty circular. A lovely thought.

It just takes me a while.
